2025 Fantasy Outlook
In the 2024-25 season, Laine was a fascinating player to stat-track. Despite playing just 52 games in his first campaign in Montreal, the 27-year-old racked up an even 20 goals on the season, a 32-goal pace over a full 82-game season. It was the seventh time that the scoring winger had reached that plateau in his career. Of the 40 players with at least 10 power-play goals -- Laine had 15 -- he was one of only three of those players to finish with 20 total goals or less. That explains his high 17.2 shooting percentage, though that's not out of line with his career norms. Laine will always be a dangerous weapon on the power play and is a near lock for 20 goals again should he stay healthy, but he could be a value pickup that could score 35-40 goals if he can increase his shot volume at even strength. Ready to rock
Laine (finger) participated in Thursday's practice as the Canadiens opened training camp.
ANALYSIS
Laine sustained a broken finger in the playoffs, but he appears to be at full strength for training camp. The 27-year-old skated in the group that did not scrimmage Thursday, but that group is scheduled to do so Friday. Laine is projected for a second-line role to begin the season.

Laine missed a ton of time last season due to injury, most notably, a broken collarbone. He then entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program in late January. All told, Laine had six goals and nine points in 18 games for Columbus. On a more positive note, Laine is now fully healthy and was cleared by the program to return in late July. Laine was clear about their desire to move on and the team finally found a trade partner in Montreal. With the Habs, Laine was poised to move into a second-line role in addition to linking up with the No. 1 power-play unit -- that was until he suffered a left knee sprain in preseason that will keep him on the shelf for 2-3 months.
