2025 Fantasy Outlook
It was another bumpy road for Grubauer in 2024-25, as he was waived at the end of January and spent a month with AHL Coachella Valley. It's not all that different from what Tristan Jarry went through in Pittsburgh, though playing for the Kraken, Grubauer's demotion got less attention. The difference in situations is that Grubauer doesn't have a clear path to No. 1 status anymore, as Joey Daccord has taken over that role in Seattle. Grubauer still has two years left at a $5.9 million cap hit, so he'll be tough to move even with the salary cap rising. The German is projected to be a backup to begin 2025-26, and after an 8-17-1 season with a 3.49 GAA and a .875 save percentage, there's no reason to assume he'll improve much even in limited usage. Slated to face Vancouver
Grubauer is expected to start on the road against Vancouver on Saturday, per Sound of Hockey.
ANALYSIS
Grubauer has gone 0-3-0 across his past four appearances while allowing 13 goals on 100 shots (.870 save percentage). He's 11-8-3 with a 2.54 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 25 outings this campaign. He'll look to get back into the win column against Vancouver, which is 4-18-5 while averaging just 2.19 goals per game across its past 27 outings.

Grubauer is easy to dismiss with a line of 14-16-2, a 2.85 GAA and an .899 save percentage in 2023-24, but there's a silver lining that a few fantasy managers will know. He went 5-9-1 with a 3.25 GAA and .884 save percentage in 17 games while playing through an injury. Grubauer was much better after missing 24 contests with a suspected groin issue, going 9-6-1 with a 2.51 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 19 outings. Best case, Grubauer wrestles the starter's reins away from Joey Daccord, who was outstanding last season, and surprises fantasy managers. More likely, he pushes Daccord, and the two men end up in a platoon. The Kraken have upgraded their forward corps and blue line so that extra support will help whoever occupies the net.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Operating in starter's crease
Grubauer was in the starter's crease during Wednesday's morning skate, Mike Benton of the Kraken Audio Network reports, indicating that he'll likely draw the home start against the Blues.
ANALYSIS
Grubauer has seen limited playing time since the Olympic break, as his likely start in Wednesday's matchup would be his second in the Kraken's five games following the layoff. He's been inconsistent in recent outings, going 2-4-1 with a 3.04 GAA and .891 save percentage over his last seven starts. The 34-year-old netminder has made a pair of road starts against St. Louis this year, going 1-1-0 with a 3.55 GAA and .860 save percentage.
