With just eight points across 111 games over the last two years with the Ducks, Johnston's usefulness is almost nonexistent in fantasy. He's more of an old-school enforcer -- he had 134 hits and 72 PIM in 43 games last year, but he was also a frequent healthy scratch. The Ducks' forward group improved this offseason, and with more prospects waiting at AHL San Diego, Johnston will likely find it tougher to get playing time, aside from when the team needs his physicality to protect more talented players. Johnston missed Monday's game versus the Sharks due to an illness but was able to limit the absence to that one contest. The 31-year-old has chipped in four assists over his last seven outings while playing in a fourth-line role. He's had a career year with 11 points, 22 shots on net, 115 hits, 62 PIM and a minus-2 rating over 38 appearances, but his bottom-six usage is still too risky for many fantasy formats.

There aren't many pure enforcers in the modern NHL, but Johnston certainly fits the description. The 30-year-old has accumulated just 28 points across 202 career NHL contests, and he's unlikely to ever have a campaign where he finishes with a double-digit point total. However, he will put his body on the line, as he did for Anaheim in 2023-24 while recording a goal, four points, 117 PIM and 139 hits in 68 regular-season appearances. Johnston is projected to serve in a fourth-line capacity to start the 2024-25 campaign, though he might spend stretches of the year as a healthy scratch.
