Scott Wedgewood

Scott Wedgewood

33-Year-Old GoalieG
Colorado Avalanche
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Wedgewood's time in Nashville lasted all of five games after signing with the Predators as a free agent. He was the first domino to fall in the Avalanche's quest for better goaltending, swapping places with Justus Annunen in a November trade. Wedgewood is a quality backup, and he went 14-6-2 with a 2.32 GAA and a .908 save percentage over 24 appearances in the regular season. With former and current teammate Mackenzie Blackwood also on the roster, Wedgewood doesn't have a particularly easy path to playing time. Still, Wedgewood's performance and the strong team in front of him should make him an option in deep fantasy formats where backup netminders carry value. Read Past Outlooks

Win streak at four
GColorado Avalanche
March 9, 2026
Wedgewood turned aside 32 shots in regulation and overtime and three of four shootout attempts during Sunday's 3-2 win over the Wild.
ANALYSIS
The 33-year-old netminder took a shutout into the third period, and Wedgewood capped another strong performance with a big blocker save on Vladimir Tarasenko in the final round of the shootout. Wedgewood has won four straight outings, including one in relief of Mackenzie Blackwood, and he's posted a 1.33 GAA and .951 save percentage over his win streak.

Wedgewood inked a two-year deal with the Preds on July 1 after racking up a 16-7-5 record, 2.85 GAA and .899 save percentage with the Stars in 2023-24. He's the clear No. 2 man, sandwiched between the elite Juuse Saros and the heir apparent Yaroslav Askarov. So, what can we expect? Wedgewood would be in line for no more than 20 starts in Nashville without Askarov nipping at his heels. The Preds may want to give the kid some games. Wedgewood might be a daily option for some managers this season. Nothing more.
After playing for three teams in 2021-22, Wedgewood found stability as the backup to Jake Oettinger in 2022-23. In that role, Wedgewood posted a 9-8-3 record, 2.72 GAA and a .915 save percentage over 21 games. While he won't get the playing time to be an option in most standard fantasy formats, Wedgewood looks like a very stable No. 2 capable of taking over the starting job in short spurts if Oettinger gets hurt. Wedgewood will also have some appeal in deeper formats thanks to his favorable team situation, which should give him a safe floor when he plays. Just don't expect much more than 20 appearances for Wedgewood if Oettinger once again stays healthy in 2023-24.
Wedgewood racked up the frequent flier miles a season ago, spending time with the Devils, Coyotes and finally the Stars. His 13-15-6 record and 3.14 GAA were nothing to write home about, but Wedgewood's .910 save percentage was quite excellent considering two of those three teams were among the worst in the entire league. Dallas re-signed Wedgewood to a one-year, $2 million contract in late June to again serve as the backup to Jake Oettinger, but as of late August, Oettinger, a restricted free agent, was yet to sign. Wedgewood's playing time in 2022-23 is entirely dependent on Oettinger's status.
Wedgewood hasn't appeared in an NHL game since the 2017-18 season and owns an ugly career 3.05 GAA and .903 save percentage in 24 appearances split between New Jersey and Arizona, but with Corey Crawford unexpectedly announcing his retirement just days before the start of the 2020-21 campaign, he's now poised to enter the year campaign as MacKenzie Blackwood's backup. Still, he won't make enough starts or play well enough when he is between the pipes to warrant fantasy consideration in standard formats.
Wedgewood saw his role within the New Jersey organization change when the Devils acquired Cory Schneider on draft day. The former Canadian world junior goalie is still attempting to establish himself as a professional netminder, spending time in both the ECHL and AHL last season. He's still a few years away from challenging for the Devils' backup job, but he's worth keeping tabs on nonetheless.
Wedgewood is one of several goaltending prospects in the New Jersey organization that the team is grooming as a possible replacement for Martin Brodeur, once the future Hall-of-Famer retires. Wedgewood was in goal for Canada during last winter's World Junior Championships but his numbers in the Ontario Hockey League leave a bit to be desired. The youngster posted a 3.02 goals-against average with a .911 save percentage en route to a 28-10-3 record for Plymouth. Wedgewood will battle with Keith Kinkaid and Jeff Frazee for starts at Albany (AHL) as the Devils have Brodeur and Johan Hedberg at the NHL level for the next two years.

Added to Team Canada list
GColorado Avalanche
November 26, 2025
Wedgewood was added to the long list of potential Team Canada players for the 2026 Winter Olympics, Aarif Deen of Colorado Hockey Now reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Wedgewood is riding an eight-game winning streak during which he has posted a 1.75 GAA, a .932 save percentage and one shutout. This year, the backstop has suffered just one regulation loss in 17 appearances while racking up 13 victories. Even with Mackenzie Blackwood back to 100 percent, the Avs seem ready to let Wedgewood see the bulk of the workload, and his superb play has placed him in the Olympic conversation.
