Teddy Blueger

Teddy Blueger

31-Year-Old CenterC
Vancouver Canucks
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Blueger accounted for eight goals, 26 points, 94 shots and 104 hits in 82 regular-season games last campaign. Before slowing down as 2024-25 progressed, he had five tallies and 12 assists through his first 35 outings. Blueger also led the Canucks with 510 faceoff wins. He has flirted with the 30-point plateau on three occasions but hasn’t achieved that mark yet in his NHL career. He is a solid bottom-six center who kills penalties, but fantasy managers won’t benefit much from his offensive contributions unless he is going through a heater. Read Past Outlooks

Add two helpers Saturday
CVancouver Canucks
March 8, 2026
Blueger dished out two assists and put two shots on net in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to Winnipeg.
ANALYSIS
Blueger continued his success when healthy this season with his second multi-point game of the campaign. Since Jan. 23, the 31-year-old center has 10 points across 13 games. Overall, he has 11 points and 34 hits across 16 outings this season. Blueger offers a solid floor in deeper fantasy leagues. Barring another injury, he is still on track to reach the 20-point threshold despite missing the majority of the season.

Blueger had to wait a month to make his Canucks debut due to a bruised ankle he suffered just before the start of the 2023-24 campaign. The good news is he didn't miss another game the rest of the way, racking up six goals and 22 assists to match his career-high of 28 points. Injuries are often part of the equation for the Latvian forward -- he's missed between 13 and 19 games in each of the last four seasons. He can chip in hits at a decent rate but doesn't produce many PIM, and his offense is rarely going to exceed a 30-point pace even if he could avoid injuries. Expect Blueger to fill a bottom-six role for the Canucks again in 2024-25, and he has virtually no chance to move up the lineup given the team's ample center depth.
Blueger split 2022-23 between Pittsburgh and Vegas, racking up a total of 16 points in 63 contests. He's rarely been anything more than a bottom-six center in his career, and that's the role he's expected to fill with the Canucks in 2023-24 after signing a one-year deal in the offseason. Blueger can probably push for 20-plus points and a hit per game, but the limited role is likely to keep him off the fantasy radar in most formats.
Blueger has quietly developed into a key member of Pittsburgh's forward rotation. The Lativan potted nine goals a season ago, while also finishing with a career-high 28 points in 65 games. Blueger missed about six weeks in the middle of the season due to a fractured jaw which required surgery but was otherwise healthy. Blueger's value is that of a responsible defensive player and solid penalty killer. It's not a fantasy-useful skill set, but the 28-year-old helps the Penguins win hockey games.
Blueger took a big step offensively last season, matching his 2019-20 total of 22 points in 26 fewer games. He scored three of his seven goals while short handed and posted a 14.3 shooting percentage overall. His increased offensive efficiency and solid defensive game earned him a two-year extension in Pittsburgh and potentially a bigger role in the lineup. The 27-year-old has averaged 15:27 of ice time over the last two seasons and could see a slight bump this year -- at least until Evgeni Malkin returns. Still, it appears that Blueger will be mostly confined to a bottom-six role for most of the campaign, limiting his fantasy upside.
Blueger had a strong 2019-20 campaign, setting career highs in games played (69), goals (nine) and assists (13). While the high-energy center is capable of producing offensively, his primary value to the Penguins comes from his defensive prowess and ability to shutdown opposing top lines. The 26-year-old Latvian figures to continue filling a third-line center role, so he won't offer much value in fantasy leagues, but he'll be critical to Pittsburgh's success or failure this season.
Blueger made his NHL debut on Jan. 30 versus the Lightning and never looked back. The left-handed Latvian signed a two-year, one-way contract with the Penguins in July, which all but guaranteed that he'll have a spot in the lineup on a nightly basis in 2019-20 as the team's new fourth-line center. In 28 appearances last season, the 24-year-old racked up six goals, four assists and 33 shots while averaging 11:03 of ice time per contest. Blueger is a quality faceoff man, and figures to be a critical component of Pittsburgh's penalty-killing unit this campaign. While he certainly won't be a fantasy stud, Blueger could make for a sneaky depth option in deeper formats this season.
Blueger scored 19 points (6G, 13A) in 40 games for Minnesota State-Mankato in 2012-13. Right now his primary claim to fame is that he attended Shattuck-St. Mary's, the same prep school as Sidney Crosby. Blueger, a Latvian native, is still years away from making an impact with the Pens. The 2012 second-round draft pick will continue to develop his playmaking skills at the NCAA level. Fantasy owners in keeper leagues might want to take a chance on him, if only because of Pittsburgh's dearth of offensive prospects.
The Latvian native scored 24 goals and registered 64 assists while playing for Shattuck-St. Mary's in 2011-12. He's expected to attend Minnesota State. Blueger, a second-round pick in 2012, tallied a goal and two assists for Latvia's entry into the World Juniors. While Blueger attended the same school as Sidney Crosby, he's years away from making a possible impact in the NHL. One plus Blueger does have going for him, however, is the fact that Pittsburgh has a dearth of offensive prospects in its organization.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Returning to Pittsburgh?
CVancouver Canucks
March 5, 2026
Blueger's availability is being checked on by the Penguins, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Blueger would take on a bottom-six role for the Penguins, but perhaps more importantly, could help the team on the faceoff dot where it has been struggling without Sidney Crosby in the lineup. While the 31-year-old Blueger has appeared in just 14 games for the Canucks this year, generating eight points, he has reached the 20-point threshold in five of his previous seven campaigns -- including three with the Penguins.
