2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Oilers want to be tough to play against, and Frederic fits that bill. However, after a 40-point regular season in 2023-24, the physical winger was limited to 15 points in 58 regular-season appearances last year between the Bruins and the Oilers. Frederic has a couple of years under his belt as an effective third liner, and the Oilers committed to him on an eight-year deal. The 27-year-old should continue in a similar role, though any level of scoring success could bump him into a much more prestigious top-six spot. If he can get top-six minutes regularly, he's worth a sleeper pick in fantasy -- otherwise, he's an option in banger leagues primarily with limited appeal elsewhere. Read Past Outlooks

Secures long-term deal
Frederic inked an eight-year, $30.8 million contract with Edmonton on Friday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Frederic played in just 23 games for the Oilers this year, including the postseason, after being acquired by the club at the trade deadline. Apparently, that was enough for the organization to commit to the 27-year-old center long term. In those outings, the St. Louis native generated one goal and three assists while dishing out 87 hits. It's that physicality that Frederic brings to the table as he heads into the 2025-26 campaign.

2018
The 2023-24 campaign was a career year for Frederic, who set new personal bests with 18 goals, 22 assists, 82 games played and 204 hits. The physicality of the 26-year-old certainly bolsters his fantasy value in formats that utilize defensive stats. The knock on the St. Louis native's game is a lack of power-play opportunities, as he has notched just two points with the man advantage in his six-year NHL career. As such, even if Frederic can reproduce a 40-point campaign in 2024-25, he won't offer significant fantasy value. A third-line role seems likely for Frederic for most of the year but injuries could open up a top-six spot periodically - though he is far from a lock to earn a promotion even when injuries crop up among the forward ranks.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Finalizing long-term deal
Frederic and the Oilers are expected to announce an eight-year deal worth slightly under $32 million Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Frederic and Edmonton have reportedly been working on the terms of his new deal for a while now but seem to be finally getting over the goal line. An eight-year commitment for a player who has reached the 40-point threshold once in his seven-year NHL career seems a bit much. Still, he's coming in at a decent cap hit at less than a $4 million AAV that will only get better as the NHL salary cap continues to rise over the next several seasons.
