2025 Fantasy Outlook
Koivunen made the transition from Finland's Liiga to North American hockey last campaign, and the results were largely encouraging. He was fantastic with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording 21 goals, 56 points and 52 PIM in 63 regular-season outings, which led to him making his NHL debut with Pittsburgh on March 30 and finishing the campaign with seven assists and 15 shots in eight appearances at the top level. After those encouraging results, the 22-year-old will go into training camp with an opportunity to secure a role on Pittsburgh's Opening Night roster in a middle-six capacity. He might encounter some growing pains, but it's reasonable to pencil him in for 30 points, and it's possible for him to significantly exceed that projection under ideal circumstances. Three more points Friday
Koivunen scored a goal on two shots and added two assists in AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's 4-0 win over Charlotte on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Koivunen looks too good for the AHL with nine points over five contests since his demotion from Pittsburgh on Oct. 11. The 22-year-old will look to continue dominating the minor league while awaiting his next chance with the big club. If this scoring touch follows him to Pittsburgh during his next call-up, he may not have to return to Northeastern Pennsylvania again.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Lock for roster spot
Koivunen will be on the Opening Night roster when the Penguins kick off the season against the Rangers on Oct. 7, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Koivunen is part of the young movement in Pittsburgh right now and will be in the lineup coming out of camp as general manager Kyle Dubas tries to make his veteran squad younger. In his eight appearances with Pittsburgh last year, the 22-year-old Koivunen notched seven helpers, including three with the man advantage, to go with 15 shots. A middle-six role seems to be the right fit for Koivunen, with him possibly even playing on the second line with Evgeni Malkin.
