2025 Fantasy Outlook
He's never been a massive scoring threat, but Girgensons' offense took a plunge in 2024-25, his first year with the Lightning. He was limited to six points in 82 regular-season games, though he added some grit with 174 hits, 50 blocked shots and 47 PIM. The Latvian forward is a reliable checking-line player, and that should be enough to keep him locked in the lineup in 2025-26, but a bounce back to the 15-point mark would be about the best-case scenario for the 31-year-old. Girgensons' 10th and final season in Buffalo was the least productive of his NHL career. He appeared in 63 games, managing just eight goals and 14 points, a new career-low. There was a time early in his career when Girgensons was good for roughly 15 goals and 30 points, but those days appear to be long gone. The veteran Latvian was forced to settle for a three-year, $2.55 million contract with the Lightning in free agency. The monetary commitment suggests Tampa Bay views Girgensons as nothing more than a bottom-of-the-lineup depth piece, meaning he's almost certain not to amass any fantasy value.

Headed for free agency
Girgensons is expected to test the open market this offseason, per The Fourth Period on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Previous reports indicated that Girgensons would be offered a new deal by the Sabres, but it seems the two sides have not been able to come to an agreement. Although the 30-year-old center has spent his entire 10-year NHL career with Buffalo, he hasn't reached the 20-point threshold since 2014-15, when he notched a career-best 15 goals and 15 helpers.
