Martinetti defeated Mark Vologdin via unanimous decision (29-28- 29-28, 29-28) at Dana White's Contender Series on Tuesday. He was one of six fighters to be officially awarded a UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
It looked like Martinetti was having trouble with the speed of his opponent early on, but the contest took a dramatic turn when the Ecuadorian fighter grabbed the clinch and began landing punishing knees to the body and head. Though his face was a mask of blood, Vologdin never stopped fighting, which forced Martinelli to ride out a wrestling attack in Round 3. To say this fight was action-packed would be an understatement, as the two fighters seemingly agreed to cast defense aside and swing in close range in Round 2. The bout was so impressive that UFC President Dana White broke protocol, announcing directly afterwards that both men (who had been taken to the hospital) would receive UFC contracts. They were also awarded $25,000 apiece for their efforts. Martinetti's prospects look bright going forward, as he is big for the bantamweight division, showcases diverse offense, and is incredibly tough. He moved to 17-1-0 in professional MMA due to the victory.
