Cruises as biggest favorite on card

Barbosa defeated Diana Belbita via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 4:13 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Barbosa found herself a -1000 favorite despite the fact she entered the evening with all of two UFC appearances (1-1) under her belt. That was the result of Belbita's recent struggles, and to Barbosa's credit, she took took advantage. Known more for her grappling than striking game, Dione secured an easy takedown late in the opening frame and was able to get the submission win, as well as a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Barbosa's upside is quite limited despite the massive amount of steam she had entering this one.

New fight scheduled
FlyweightUFC
January 29, 2025
Barbosa will take on Diana Belbita in a flyweight bout at UFC Vegas 105 on April 5, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Barbosa was slated to take on Julia Polastri, but she was forced to withdraw from the fight for an undisclosed reason. Now, she has her next bout scheduled against a fighter who has struggled immensely recently. Belbita has dropped her last two fights and currently holds a perilous 2-5 record in the UFC. Barbosa, meanwhile, is coming off a loss at the hands of Miranda Maverick back in July.
Loses fight against Polastri

Barbosa will no longer compete in a scheduled fight against Julia Polastri that was originally set to take place at UFC Mexico on March 29, CC Legaspi of ESPN Deportes reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear what caused Barbosa's withdrawal, but she'll presumably be on the sidelines until that originally-scheduled date. Yazmin Jauregui will step in to face Polastri in her stead.
Suffers first UFC defeat

Barbosa lost to Miranda Maverick via unanimous decision (28-29, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Predictably, Barbosa found life much more difficult against Maverick than in her UFC debut against Ernesta Kareckaite just a couple months back. Dione actually held her own on the feet, but Maverick did an excellent job of forcing her to the mat on multiple occasions, and Barbosa, a ground specialist, was far too accepting of being on her back. She displayed no urgency to get back to her feet, making it impossible for Barbosa to win a decision. Already 32 years of age and with only nine pro fights under her belt, Barbosa appears to be little more than roster depth for the UFC.

Barbosa (7-2-0) was added to the card for the UFC's July 20 event in Las Vegas and will face Miranda Maverick (13-5) in a flyweight bout, Guilherme Cruz and Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com report.
ANALYSIS
The 32-year-old Brazilian will be replacing Tracy Cortez, who was originally slated to face Maverick but has instead been moved up to fight Rose Namajunas at UFC Denver on July 13. Barbosa will be taking a four-fight winning streak into her bout with Maverick.
Takes decision in UFC debut

May 4, 2024
Barbosa defeated Ernesta Kareckaite via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 301 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
This fight was essentially a two-parter, with Barbosa dominating the first half and Kareckaite in firm control the second half. The Brazilian should feel fortunate the three judges felt she did enough in the first seven-plus minutes to win. Barbosa was determined to use her grappling game, but she landed just 2-of-11 takedowns, including going 0-for-6 in Round 3. Set to turn 32 years of age next week and with just eight professional fights under her belt, Barbosa's ceiling would appear to be quite low despite the fact she emerged with the victory here.
