Cruises as biggest favorite on card
FlyweightUFC
June 7, 2025
Van defeated Bruno Silva via TKO (punches) at 4:03 of Round 3 at UFC 316 on Saturday in Newark, New Jersey.
ANALYSIS
On a card with a ton of massive favorites, Van was the biggest at upwards of -750. The juice appeared to be entirely justified following this performance. Van closed with a 125-76 edge in total strikes landed and was credited with three knockdowns. The toughness of Silva combined with referee Vitor Ribeiro's strange reluctance to pull the plug was the only reason this fight went as long as it did. Van won't be 24 years until October. He's fought a whopping eight times since his June 2023 UFC debut, going 7-1. That kind of work load is not a feasible option moving forward, however. Van will need to pick and choose his spots as he moves up the rankings.

March 8, 2025
Van defeated Rei Tsuruya via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 313 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was another brilliant effort from Van, who continues to show off all facets of his game. Van openly admitted that he only started training wrestling prior to his UFC debut. That came in June 2023. The fact he was able to step in here against a talented grappler in Tsuruya and stuff 17-of-21 takedown attempts is remarkable. He's a tremendous athlete with elite balance and an excellent gas tank. Offensively, Van is excels at pushing forward and stringing together combinations. It's an exciting package that is made even better by the fact he won't turn 24 years of age until October. Van improves to 6-1 in his first seven UFC bouts.

Booked against Silva

Van will fight Bruno Silva at UFC 313 on March 8, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Van's defeat of Cody Durden in December gave the 23-year-old his third win in four fights during 2024. He will continue his trend of quickly stepping back into the Octagon to take on Silva, who is 11 years older than Van and recently had a four-fight win streak snapped by Manel Kape.
Runs through Cody Durden
FlyweightUFC
December 7, 2024
Van defeated Cody Durden via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-26, 30-27) at UFC 310 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
We've seen slow starts from Van in the past and got another one here. He gave up two takedowns to Durden in Round 1 and spent more than three minutes being control on the mat. Yet, Van is an absolute cardio machine with the ability to pile up the strikes in short order. He flipped the switch at the start of Round 2 and proceeded to run Durden out of the building. All told, Van closed with a 165-70 in terms of significant strikes landed. Still just 23 years of age, Van has fought four times in 2024, winning three of them. While he's clearly capable of stepping in the Octagon frequently, it would be nice to see he and his team pick their spots a bit better in 2025. It would pay dividends over the long run.
