Another lightweight fight scheduled
Nelson is scheduled to compete against Terrance McKinney in a lightweight fight at UFC Seattle on March 28, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
2025 was a bounce-back year for Nelson, whose 2024 saw him dominated in his last fight of the year after missing the UFC's featherweight limit. For 2025, Nelson's lone fight and return to lightweight saw him defeat Matt Frevola via unanimous decision in Vancouver.

Strong effort in native Canada
Nelson defeated Matt Frevola via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Vancouver.
ANALYSIS
Full marks to Nelson for putting forth a dominant 15-minute performance in a pick 'em fight. Of course, he would have earned the stoppage win at the end of Round 1 had referee Dan Miragliotta not screwed up and called off the fight as he should have after stepping in with three seconds left in the frame. The error forced Nelson to put forth another 10 minutes of hard work, but he controlled Frevola throughout in his best performance in quite some time. It's rarely pretty, but the 34-year-old Nelson has won four of five dating back to June 2023.

Taking on Frevola
Nelson will face Matt Frevola in a featherweight bout at UFC Vancouver on Oct. 18, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Nelson will be looking to bounce back after a loss to Steve Garcia that was't particularly close, made worse by the fact that he missed weight as well. That dropped his UFC record to 4-5, and he'll look to even it up against Frevola, who is also coming off a loss.

Dominated after weight miss
Nelson lost to Steve Garcia via TKO (strikes) at 3:59 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Entering on a three-fight winning streak and having a chance to make some headway at 145 pounds, Nelson proceeded to miss weight by 2.5 pounds Friday morning. He forfeited a percentage of his purse to Garcia in order for the bout to proceed and still lasted less than four minutes. Nelson got Garcia's back early after the latter slipped, but Steve eventually extracted himself from the situation and unloaded with everything but the kitchen sink. Referee Mark Smith gave Nelson all the time in the world to get his act together, but he simply wasn't able to. Now 33 years of age, Kyle needs to right the ship immediately and find a win his next time out.

Fight still on
Nelson will compete against Steve Garcia in a catchweight fight at UFC Vegas 97 on Saturday, according to the promotion.
ANALYSIS
According to MMA Fighting, Nelson went 2.5 pounds over the featherweight limit. Even so, them having a staredown for the event indicates their fight is still on, presumably under the pretense that Nelson was significantly fined for his weight miss.

Fight is back on
Nelson will now fight Steve Garcia in a bout scheduled for Sep. 7, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Nelson was orginally slotted to face Calvin Kattar (undisclosed) but will now pivot and fight Steve Garcia who is coming in with four straight wins.
