Lasts 89 seconds at UFC 300
Yusuff lost to Diego Lopes via TKO (punches) at 1:29 of Round 1 at UFC 300 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Yusuff entered the evening having been knocked out just once in his professional career, and that came all the way back in December 2017. Yet, all it took was one massive Lopes uppercut from clinch position to essentially end his night here. Sodiq theoretically survived the first flurry, but Diego came sprinting after him and closed the show. Yusuff found himself as just a +120 underdog at the start of the fight, so it was certainly expected he would put forth a better effort than this. Sodiq's 5-3 record in his first eight UFC bouts is fine, but he's had zero success against better competition. Expect that to continue moving forward.

Fight scheduled at UFC 300
Yusuff is scheduled to compete against Diego Lopes in a featherweight fight in Paradise at UFC 300, per Farah Hannoun of MMAJunkie.com.
ANALYSIS
With the UFC's biggest event of 2024, Yusuff can re-establish himself as a featherweight to be feared with his next fight. He began his UFC career 6-1 before meeting Edson Barboza in a five-round bout at UFC Vegas 81. Yusuff will look to redeem himself and defend his No. 12 ranking at featherweight against an unranked Lopes on the rise after back-to-back first-round finishes.

Fades following fast start
Yusuff lost to Edson Barboza via unanimous decision (46-49, 46-48, 46-48) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
A brilliant start for Yusuff proved unsustainable and ended up resulting in by far his most frustrating loss to date. Yusuff nearly ended this fight in Round 1, with two of the three judges giving him a 10-8 score. Yet, he let Edson off the hook, and it was the last time he threatened his veteran opponent, as Barboza won each of the next four rounds on all three scorecards. Sodiq landed a ridiculous 206 total strikes and still came up short. The aggressiveness and effectiveness of the opening frame was nowhere to be found the rest of the way. Yusuff's 6-2 UFC record remains excellent, but the fact the two defeats came at the hands of the two best opponents he has faced (Barboza, Arnold Allen) is highly concerning. On the bright side, he'll take home an extra $50,000 after this main event was given Fight of the Night honors.

Barboza fight now five rounds
Yusuff will compete against Edson Barboza in a five-round fight at UFC Vegas 81 on Oct. 14, according to Nolan King of USA Today.
ANALYSIS
Previously a three-round fight, the Barboza-Yusuff bout was elevated to five rounds so that it could headline Vegas 81 on short notice. This will mark Yusuff's first five-round bout and card headliner just seven fights into what has turned out to be a great start to his UFC career.

ANALYSIS
Yusuff, currently No. 11 in the UFC's featherweight rankings, is expected to defend his coveted spot against No. 14 Barboza, an established veteran with name recognition. It will have been more than one year since Yusuff last participated in a fight, during which he submitted Don Shainis in 30 seconds at UFC Vegas 61.
