Truck Start at St. Pete
Craftsman Truck Series
February 3, 2026
TRICON Garage announced that four-time IndyCar Series champion Franchitti will make his return to NASCAR competition for the first time since 2008, driving for the organization when the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series takes to the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida.
ANALYSIS
TRICON in partnership with LEGACY MOTOR Club will put the veteran driver in the No. 1 Toyota Tundra for the season-opener of the truck series. They will be racing at the street course in St. Pete in combination with IndyCar's opening weekend of the 2026 season. "The thought of racing a NASCAR truck on a street circuit is really intriguing to me. The different surfaces, the fact that part of it is on an airport, then you go into the streets, the different bumps all those things you got to try and master. This was just the chance to race on a circuit that I love, and a chance to do something fun," said Franchitti.

2008 Fantasy Outlook
We have pegged Franchitti as the open wheel star to have the most success in his first full season of Sprint Cup Racing. He should give a good challenge to Regan Smith for Rookie of the Year. Franchitti showed some flashes of skill in his limited Nationwide and Craftsman Truck Series starts last season. More importantly, Franchitti and the No. 40 team will have the valuable provisional starts that will ensure he will make all the races at the beginning of the season.
