2026 Fantasy Outlook
Melon Man would scratch the win column last season (Charlotte) and build his current win streak to four seasons in NASCAR's top division. However, over that time we've seen his Top 10's diminish to just 12 last season and his average finish rise to 15.8. It's not a good trend but we believe it will stop in the upcoming season. Trackhouse Racing has replaced crew chief, Phil Surgen, with Brandon McSwain for 2026. He is an up-and-coming crew chief who has some time in the lower divisions of NASCAR, and most recently was the race engineer for the No. 24 car and William Byron. We'll see how quickly the two can work out some chemistry and begin to show some results. Chastain has demonstrated the ability to win races on both ovals and road circuits and to be a fierce competitor no matter where NASCAR races. We believe he has a lot left in the tank and Trackhouse has not run out of surprises. Read Past Outlooks
Third in Autotrader 400
Chastain finished third in the Autotrader 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at EchoPark Speedway on Sunday evening.
ANALYSIS
The Trackhouse Racing veteran showed his love of EchoPark Speedway in this 400-mile battle. Despite some run-ins earlier in the race and minor damage to the No. 1 Chevrolet, Chastain would be around at the end to battle among the leaders. He'd give Tyler Reddick a push into the lead late for the win and Chastain would hang on and hold off Carson Hocevar at the stripe for a strong third-place.

Chastain had a bit of a perplexing season in 2023. While he still won two races, his Top-10 totals dropped from 21 to 14 over the prior year and his average finish swelled from 13.3 to 15.0. Some of the consistency he enjoyed in 2022 seemed to be missing last year and as a consequence it was only good for ninth-place in the final driver standings. Much of that was thanks to a late-season playoff heater that saw Chastain grab a win in the season finale, four Top-5 and five Top-10 finishes in the playoffs. That's a good look heading into the short off-season and very encouraging for 2024. We may be being a bit too conservative ranking Chastain 11th in the pre-season rankings as he certainly has the ability to grab wins and pile up Top 10's. He's shown he can be a championship contending driver and he could resume that in the upcoming season.
