2025 Fantasy Outlook
Gibbs took a little bit to get rolling, but once he got some momentum on his side, he would easily march to Rookie of the Year honors in 2023. The Joe Gibbs Racing youngster would heat up in the second half of last season and earn 10 Top-10 finishes and wind up a respectable 18th-place in the points at the end of last year. Gibbs will now look to continue climbing the ladder and follow the example his teammate, Christopher Bell, has set with driver development at JGR. We believe that's a very good comparison and likely a good predictor of potential performance. Bell posted similar rookie numbers to Gibbs and in year two would earn one win and 16 Top-10 finishes en route to a strong 12th-place showing in the driver standings. Gibbs is quite capable of meeting, if not exceeding those goals. He and crew chief, Chris Gayle, developed some clear chemistry by the end of last season, so we'll see what they can accomplish in 2024. Read Past Outlooks
Third in FireKeepers Casino 400
NASCAR Cup
June 8, 2025
Gibbs finished third in the FireKeepers Casino 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday afternoon.
ANALYSIS
Gibbs has enjoyed a lot of success at the Michigan oval and it continued in Sunday's FireKeepers Casino 400. The young driver raced in-and-out of the Top 10 at times in this 400-mile battle. Although he didn't lead any laps in the No. 54 Toyota he'd play the fuel mileage right and would be around to battle with the leaders in the end. Gibbs would hold off Bubba Wallace down the stretch to claim the strong third-place finish at Michigan International Speedway. Gibbs snapped a five-race Top-10 drought with the performance and picked up just his second Top 5 of the season.

Gibbs has the inside track on Rookie of the Year in 2023. The talented youngster got some valuable Cup Series seat time last season in relief of Kurt Busch at 23XI Racing. Gibbs would end up making 15 starts for that team, and although the success was quite limited, it was tremendously valuable for the exposure Gibbs got with the new generation stock car. The 19-year-old prodigy nabbed just one Top-10 and three Top-15 finishes in those 15 starts for a 22.9 average finish. Now Gibbs gets to fill the seat of the departed Kyle Busch at Joe Gibbs Racing. The No. 18 Toyota will get a No. 54 rebrand and a brand new sponsorship lineup. Gibbs is wildly talented as his 2021 ARCA Menards Series and 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series championships illustrate (17 total wins the last two seasons) but it's going to take some time for the young driver to adapt to the radically different car and the top competition of the Cup Series.
The big buzz of last season was the surprising performance of prospect Gibbs in just a limited schedule. Gibbs made just 18 starts in his inaugural season, but he won immediately in his first start of the season on the Daytona road course, and kept winning right up until his next-to-last start at Kansas in October. It would all add up to a four-win 10 Top-10 performance in the partial schedule. Gibbs is a head-turner to be sure and incredibly talented. He'll take on the full 33-race slate in 2022, and powered by Joe Gibbs Racing speed and excellence. Frankly, it's a little shocking to think what could be possible with this young driver. He has some lessons still to be learned as a 19-year-old driver, but Gibbs' talent and potential is undeniably great.
