Engel has been acquired by Real Salt Lake from Middlesbrough and signed a contract through December 2028, with a club option for the 2028-29 MLS season, the club announced. "Lukas fits perfectly into the culture we are building in Utah. Beyond his physical attributes and versatility, he brings a veteran voice that elevates those around him. His arrival provides us with a seasoned professional who knows what it takes to win in this league," said RSL CSO Kurt Schmid.

Engel joins Utah ahead of his 11th professional season, bringing extensive international experience and reuniting with former FCC teammate DeAndre Yedlin while integrating into an evolving back line. The Danish left back has made 277 professional appearances across Denmark, England and the United States, spending most of his career in his home country before moving to Middlesbrough for the 2023/24 Championship season. He recorded two goals and four assists in 53 matches for The Boro.
