On Wednesday's all-day slate, I'm looking at a pair of divisional battles in the evening portion where I have slightly different offensive expectations than the posted lines.

MLB Picks for Rays at Yankees

  • Yankees moneyline (-136 on FanDuel Sportsbook) for 1 Unit
  • SGP: Yankees moneyline and Zack Littell Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (+120 on BetMGM Sportsbook) for 1 Unit

This AL East showdown could see a busy scoreboard. Zack Littell and Will Warren will face off, and these two talented pitchers  are nevertheless prone to some stumbles.

Littell has repeatedly been victimized by the long ball, now having allowed 26 homers across 128.1 innings this season (1.8 HR/9). The right-hander's average velocity is down to 91.8 mph after topping out as high as 95 in 2021 with the Giants, while his strikeout rate sits at a middling 16.5%. Littell is also allowing the second-highest barrel rate of his career (11.3 percent) and sports a .272 xBA, .495 xSLG and .341 xwOBA.

Current healthy Yankees hitters have given him his fair share of trouble in the past as well, getting to him for a collective .273 average and .921 OPS across 75 total plate appearances while lacing nine of their 18 hits in that sample for extra bases. New York's lineup is naturally less potent without the sidelined Aaron Judge, but the Bombers still managed seven runs Tuesday and have more than enough pop to capitalize on Littell's weaknesses. Rays relievers have also surrendered 11 homers in July.

Warren brings electric stuff (10.7 K/9), but his volatility is aptly demonstrated by the fact he's interspersed five-run and eight-run outings with three others of two runs or fewer within his last five trips to the mound. In all, Warren has surrendered four runs or more in seven of his 22 starts this season, and he's pitched to some contact in two previous outings against the Rays (5.68 ERA) while allowing their hitters a collective .429 average and 1.172 OPS.

Warren has been appreciably better at Yankee Stadium than on the road, so I like the hosts as relatively modest favorites as a main bet. I am also in the camp of an SGP that banks on New York's win and Littell allowing at least three earned runs for the 10th time this season and the eighth time on the road.

MLB Picks for Mariners at Athletics

  • SGP: Under 6.5 runs -F5 and Jeffrey Springs Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+170 on BetMGM Sportsbook) for 1 Unit

This AL West battle features a pair of capable starters in Bryan Woo and Jeffrey Springs that are familiar with their opponent and come in riding relatively strong stretches of recent pitching.

Woo has a 3-1 record, 2.03 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 9.9 K/9 across the 44.1 innings covering his last seven starts. That stretch includes impressive quality road starts against the Twins, Rangers, Yankees and Angels. Woo has also faced the Athletics twice this season, and although he had trouble in his one start in Sacramento (five earned runs allowed over six innings), he's still held current Athletics hitters to a collective .130/.173/.247 slash line in 81 career encounters.

Springs had a hiccup two starts ago against the Guardians on the road, but he's still carrying a 3.51 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over the 59 innings covering his 10 starts since June 4. The left-hander has also pitched to a 1.64 ERA and generated a 13:3 K:BB over 11 innings in two starts against the Mariners this season. He's held current Seattle bats to a .189/.259/.264 slash line in 58 career encounters.

Woo has held the opposition to averages of .232, .199 and .187 his first, second and third times through the order as well. There are clearly some elevated offensive expectations while both starters are in the game based on the total we're getting for the first five innings.  We'll stretch that number out by an extra run and pair it with an achievable strikeout prop for Springs, who's hit at least 5 Ks in eight starts this season, including a season-high nine against Seattle in his first start of the campaign.
