2025 Fantasy Outlook
Gomber set career highs with 30 starts and 165 innings. He recorded 12 quality starts (five at home), but he's also susceptible to a disaster outing, affectionately known in fantasy circles as being "Gombered." He limits walks, so on the occasions he enjoys batted ball fortune and can keep the ball in the yard, Gomber can be effective. However, he sports a below average strikeout rate and is a fly ball pitcher, so timing his productive outings is a fool's errand. He's slightly better away from Coors Field, but even his 4.55 ERA and 1.26 WHIP on the road since 2022 does more harm than good. Resist the temptation of chasing the occasional string effort; you'll probably end up getting Gombered. Read Past Outlooks

Falls to 0-4
Gomber (0-4) took the loss against St. Louis on Monday, allowing five runs on 11 hits and no walks while striking out six batters over 5.2 innings.
Analysis
Gomber got through three scoreless frames before the Cardinals scored twice against him in the fourth. St. Louis struck for another run in the fifth, and Gomber entered the sixth inning trailing 3-2. The southpaw was unable to make it out of the sixth, as the Cardinals put up two more runs against him on four singles (two of which didn't leave the infield). Gomber is still looking for his first victory of the campaign, and he's taken the loss in each of his past three starts. On a positive note, Gomber's 5.2 frames and six punchouts Monday were both season-high marks, so he at least appears to be healthy after missing over two-and-a-half months to begin the campaign due to a shoulder issue.

The age-old issue of Coors Field was as present as ever for Gomber last season, which is evidenced by his 7.05 ERA in 15 home starts compared to a 3.68 ERA in 12 starts on the road. That's a sharp contrast to his first season with Colorado in 2021, when the home/road splits were flipped (2.09 home ERA vs. 6.22 road ERA). Gomber made 27 starts last year and should again be in the rotation for 2024, but the volatile pitching environment and inconsistent track record limits his appeal to that of an occasional streamer.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Building trade value
Gomber is an "obvious candidate" to be traded by the Rockies this summer, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com.
Analysis
Gomber posted a 5.53 ERA during his first two seasons in Colorado, but he's pitched better early in 2024 with a 3.06 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 43:20 K:BB across 61.2 innings. Surprisingly, the left-hander's home/road splits are fairly even, as he has a 3.14 ERA and .695 OPS against him at Coors Field compared to a 3.00 ERA and .706 OPS on the road. Gomber will enter his final year of arbitration eligibility next season, so the Rockies may not be in a rush to deal him ahead of the deadline this summer.
