2025 Fantasy Outlook
It feels like not all that long ago that Harper was anointed "Baseball's Chosen One" while gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated as a 16-year-old, and similar to LeBron James in the NBA, Harper has managed to exceed seemingly impossible expectations. He reached 30 homers last season for the fifth time in his career while also surpassing 40 doubles for a second time. After an elbow injury and subsequent Tommy John surgery necessitated a full-time move to first base in 2023, Harper made only one trip to the injured list last season due to a low-grade hamstring strain. He played through wrist and elbow discomfort later in the campaign, which led to 30-game homerless drought. A two-time MVP and eight-time All-Star, Harper is still in search of that elusive World Series title, and that will be his and the Phillies' primary motivation in 2025. Expect well-rounded production around some missed time over the course of the long season. Read Past Outlooks

For the year, he's slashing .272/.383/.498 with 13 long balls, 41 RBI, 42 runs scored, and nine stolen bases across 311 plate appearances.

We enter a new realm for Harper on draft day as we are forced to consider him as part of the first base pool now as he lost his outfield eligibility last year and with the announced divestiture from Rhys Hoskins, maybe permanently. Harper got off to an expected slow start in the power department coming off his surgery with just five homers through the end of July before he got red hot over the final two months with 16 homers and 41 RBIs capped with a 10 homer August around a .361 average. Once Harper got into his groove, everything fell back into place and he was his normal self as the final numbers show. We can excuse his lowest slugging percentage since 2018 to the post-surgical rust, but everything else looks as good as it ever was. The next hurdle is him resuming his 140+ game workload after two seasons of falling short of that much-needed mark given his lofty annual draft status.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Willing to move to OF for right 1B
Harper told the Phillies this offseason that he was willing to move back to the outfield to accommodate the addition of a marquee first baseman such as Pete Alonso, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Rosenthal notes that the Phillies "never got serious" about Alonso, so it seems Harper shifting back to the outfield in 2025 wasn't ever a distinct possibility. It's notable for possible future pursuits by the Phillies, though, particularly with Vladimir Guerrero slated to hit free agency next winter. Harper insists that "I love playing first base," but he would be open to a return to the outfield "if it's going to help us win."
