Week 8 - Bye Weeks - AZ, DET, JAX, LAR, LV, SEA.

No London Game!

Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.

Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:

- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.

These are the fantasy football rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Should I start Patrick Mahomes or Bryce Young?"

These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.

Each week after Week 1, the first set of rankings will be posted late on Tuesday night. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff on Sunday morning.

Quarterbacks

1.Patrick Mahomes KC vs. WAS
2.Josh Allen BUF at CAR
3.Dak Prescott DAL at DEN
4.Jalen Hurts PHI vs. NYG
5.*Lamar Jackson BAL vs. CHI
Note: Jackson (hamstring) didn't participate in Monday's first practice after the bye, but the hope is still there that he'll start this week and we'll know more after Wednesday's practice. The line (BAL -6.5) certainly implies that he'll play. Jackson was limited on Wednesday and was also limited on Thursday.
6.*Bo Nix DEN vs. DAL
Note: Nix was having an awful first three quarters against the Giants, but then turned in a monster fourth quarter with two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns.
7.Caleb Williams CHI at BAL
8.Daniel Jones IND vs. TEN
9.*Drake Maye NE vs. CLE
Note: Maye completed a whopping 93 percent of his passes in the win over the Titans.
10.*Justin Herbert LAC vs. MIN
Note: Herbert gets LT Joe Alt back this week.
11.*Baker Mayfield TB at NO
Note: Mayfield struggled through his worst game of the season, missing multiple times on downfield throws with open receivers, perhaps due to the Lions' pass rush. Mayfield (knee) was limited Wednesday, but a full participant on Thursday.
12.Jaxson Dart NYG at PHI
13.Jordan Love GB at PIT
14.Joe Flacco CIN vs. NYJ
15.*Michael Penix ATL vs. MIA
Note: Penix is day-to-day with a bone bruise in his foot/ankle. We'll find out more after Wednesday's practice whether Penix can go, or if we'll see Kirk Cousins. Penix has been limited through the first two practices of the week.
16.Aaron Rodgers PIT vs. GB
17.*Carson Wentz MIN at LAC
Note: Wentz will be the starter again this week, and J.J. McCarthy will be the emergency No. 3 quarterback again Thursday night.
18.Mac Jones SF at HOU
19.*Cam Ward TEN at IND
Note: Ward was effective early against the Pats, but his fumble-six at the start of the third quarter effectively sealed the game.
20.*Marcus Mariota WAS at KC
Note: Mariota filled in capably when Jayden Daniels was hurt earlier this year, but he poured gasoline on the fire against the Cowboys, throwing a pick-six under pressure after coming in for Daniels in the third quarter. It's possible he could start Monday night against the Chiefs. Mariota will get the start, with Daniels already ruled out.
21.*Tyrod Taylor NYJ at CIN
Note: The Jets haven't made it official yet, but Taylor is likely to start this week after replacing Justin Fields in the third quarter last week. Taylor (knee) has been limited for the first two days of practice this week. Meanwhile, Aaron Glenn said that he won't name a starter before Sunday.
22.*Spencer Rattler NO vs. TB
Note: Rattler needed the dreaded vote of confidence of committing four turnovers against the Bears. Previously, he had thrown just one interception.
23.*C.J. Stroud HOU vs. SF
Note: Stroud and the Texans reverted to form once they faced a real pass rush again. It didn't help that Nico Collins suffered a concussion in the second half. Houston hosts the Niners this week.
24.*Tua Tagovailoa MIA at ATL
Note: Tagovailoa will get another start this week despite getting benched in favor of Quinn Ewers last week at Cleveland.
25.*Andy Dalton CAR vs. BUF
Note: Dalton will start at least this week due to Bryce Young's high-ankle sprain.
26.Dillon Gabriel CLE at NE
27.*Brock Purdy SF at HOU
Note: The Niners will continue to monitor Purdy (toe) this week, but it'll be 'a stretch' that he can play in Week 8 against the Texans. Purdy was limited in practice Wednesday, but is 'steadily getting better every week.'
28.*Justin Fields NYJ at CIN
Note: It's not great when the owner is throwing shade in your direction as the starting quarterback, but that's where we are with the Jets and Fields. He was benched for Tyrod Taylor last week and Taylor is likely to start this week. Coach Aaron Glenn said that he wouldn't name a starter until Sunday.
29.Kirk Cousins ATL vs. MIA
30.Cooper Rush BAL vs. CHI
31.*Quinn Ewers MIA at ATL
Note: Ewers and Zach Wilson will compete for the backup job this week behind Tua Tagovailoa. Ewers was the backup last week and saw some game action after Tagovailoa threw his third interception.
32.*Bryce Young CAR vs. BUF
Note: Young suffered a high-ankle sprain in the win over the Jets and will miss at least Week 8. Andy Dalton will start. Young is officially day-to-day, but we already know that Dalton is starting.
33.*Jayden Daniels WAS at KC
Note: Daniels struggled even before his hamstring injury, and while he was not helped by the Commanders' B-Team receivers, he was also off. His hamstring injury isn't considered significant, but that doesn't mean he's in the clear for Monday night against the Chiefs. Daniels has been ruled out for Monday night.
34.*J.J. McCarthy MIN at LAC
Note: McCarthy will be the emergency No. 3 quarterback again Thursday night.
35.Jared Goff DET at
36.Sam Darnold SEA at

3.Christian McCaffrey SF at HOU
4.De'Von Achane MIA at ATL

7.*Josh Jacobs GB at PIT
Note: Jacobs (calf) was limited in Thursday's practice.
8.Saquon Barkley PHI vs. NYG
9.Derrick Henry BAL vs. CHI
10.Javonte Williams DAL at DEN
11.*Rico Dowdle CAR vs. BUF
Note: Dowdle and Chuba Hubbard alternated possessions in the win over the Jets. Dowdle was far more effective, but Hubbard drew the first drive.
12.Cam Skattebo NYG at PHI
13.*D'Andre Swift CHI at BAL
Note: Swift (groin) sat out practice Wednesday and had a limited practice Thursday.
14.J.K. Dobbins DEN vs. DAL
15.*Breece Hall NYJ at CIN
Note: Hall (knee) remained a limited participant Thursday after having the same level of activity Wednesday.
16.Jaylen Warren PIT vs. GB
17.Rachaad White TB at NO
18.Jacory Croskey-Merritt WAS at KC
19.Jordan Mason MIN at LAC
20.*Isiah Pacheco KC vs. WAS
Note: Pacheco was the feature back early on for the Chiefs over Kareem Hunt, even getting work at the goal line, where he cashed in his first rushing touchdown of the season. He faces a Commanders team that has been crushed on the ground the last two weeks.
21.Chase Brown CIN vs. NYJ
22.*Alvin Kamara NO vs. TB
Note: Kamara (ankle) has been limited in practice again so far this week.
23.*Rhamondre Stevenson NE vs. CLE
Note: Stevenson dominated the Patriots' RB workload against the Titans.
24.*Chuba Hubbard CAR vs. BUF
Note: Hubbard and Rico Dowdle alternated possessions, and Dowdle outperformed Hubbard, though Hubbard drew the start.
25.Tony Pollard TEN at IND
26.Kimani Vidal LAC vs. MIN
27.*Tyler Allgeier ATL vs. MIA
Note: I really like the matchup and game flow potential for Allgeier this week, but he's been limited in practice so far with hip and knee issues.
28.*Woody Marks HOU vs. SF
Note: Marks couldn't get going in the running game (10-15-0), but a late receiving touchdown bailed out those who started him.
29.*Kyle Monangai CHI at BAL
Note: Monangai looked fantastic in the win over the Saints, rushing 13 times for 81 yards and a score.
30.RJ Harvey DEN vs. DAL
31.*TreVeyon Henderson NE vs. CLE
Note: Henderson didn't even get any work in garbage time against the Titans, netting just two touches the entire day. Coordinator Josh McDaniels said that Henderson's lack of activity last week was 'circumstantial' and his snap share should increase again.
32.Nick Chubb HOU vs. SF
33.Emanuel Wilson GB at PIT
34.*Aaron Jones MIN at LAC
Note: Jones (hamstring) was designated to return from IR on Tuesday, thus allowing him to practice, after the Vikings declined to do so on Monday. There's a chance he plays on Thursday night. Jones officially was activated from the IR in time for Thursday's game.
35.*Isaiah Davis NYJ at CIN
Note: Davis could see an uptick in activity of work this week, with Breece Hall (knee) limited in practice and potentially on the trade block.
36.*Kareem Hunt KC vs. WAS

37.Ray Davis BUF at CAR

50.Trevor Etienne CAR vs. BUF
51.Ty Johnson BUF at CAR
52.Devin Singletary NYG at PHI
53.*Brashard Smith KC vs. WAS
Note: Smith had 14 carries and five catches in the blowout win over the Raiders, and not quite all of his work came in mop-up time.
54.Samaje Perine CIN vs. NYJ
55.Keaton Mitchell BAL vs. CHI
56.Jaydon Blue DAL at DEN
57.Dylan Sampson CLE at NE
58.Will Shipley PHI vs. NYG
59.Kaleb Johnson PIT vs. GB

61.Tahj Brooks CIN vs. NYJ
62.*Bucky Irving TB at NO
Note: Irving (foot) will not return this week.
63.*Zavier Scott MIN at LAC
Note: Scott (wrist) was a limited participant in Tuesday's walk-through practice.
64.*Hassan Haskins LAC vs. MIN
Note: Haskins (hamstring) has been a non-participant in the first two practices of the week. If Haskins can't go, Nyheim Hines or Trayveon Williams would be next in line to back up Kimani Vidal. Officially ruled out for Thursday.
65.*Kendre Miller NO vs. TB
Note: Miller tore his ACL early in the loss to the Bears and is out for the season.

Note: Marks couldn't get going in the running game (10-15-0), but a late receiving touchdown bailed out those who started him.
68.Quentin Johnston LAC vs. MIN
69.*DJ Moore CHI at BAL
Note: Moore (hip) was limited in Thursday's practice.
70.*Kyle Monangai CHI at BAL
Note: Monangai looked fantastic in the win over the Saints, rushing 13 times for 81 yards and a score.
71.RJ Harvey DEN vs. DAL

73.Sterling Shepard TB at NO
74.*Dallas Goedert PHI vs. NYG
Note: Goedert (calf) fully practiced Thursday after being limited Wednesday.
75.*Dalton Kincaid BUF at CAR
Note: Kincaid (oblique) has been limited in practice this week despite coming off the bye and missing the Monday night game the week before.
76.*TreVeyon Henderson NE vs. CLE
Note: Henderson didn't even get any work in garbage time against the Titans, netting just two touches the entire day. Coordinator Josh McDaniels said that Henderson's lack of activity last week was 'circumstantial' and his snap share should increase again.
77.Nick Chubb HOU vs. SF
78.*Jerry Jeudy CLE at NE
Note: Jeudy (knee) sat out Wednesday but upgraded to a limited practice Thursday.
79.Rashid Shaheed NO vs. TB
80.Marvin Mims DEN vs. DAL

6.Ka'imi Fairbairn HOU vs. SF
7.Wil Lutz DEN vs. DAL
8.Eddy Pineiro SF at HOU

10.Evan McPherson CIN vs. NYJ
11.Harrison Butker KC vs. WAS
12.*Lucas Havrisik GB at PIT
Note: Havrisik is 4-for-4 while filling in for Brandon McManus, including a 61-yarder against the Cardinals last week.
13.Matt Gay WAS at KC
14.Nick Folk NYJ at CIN
15.Matt Prater BUF at CAR
16.Tyler Loop BAL vs. CHI

Defenses

1.Indianapolis Colts vs. TEN
2.New England Patriots vs. CLE
3.*Kansas City Chiefs vs. WAS
Note: This ranking presumes that the Chiefs will be up against Marcus Mariota and not Jayden Daniels.
4.Atlanta Falcons vs. MIA
5.*Tampa Bay Buccaneers at NO
Note: Spencer Rattler turned back into a pumpkin last week, turning it over four times.
6.*Philadelphia Eagles vs. NYG
Note: I think Philly shows better against the Giants this week with Jalen Carter (heel) back.
7.*San Francisco 49ers at HOU
Note: The Niners are a sneaky stream against the sieve-like Texans' offensive line.
8.Buffalo Bills at CAR
9.Green Bay Packers at PIT
10.Houston Texans vs. SF
11.Baltimore Ravens vs. CHI
12.Cleveland Browns at NE
13.Minnesota Vikings at LAC
14.Denver Broncos vs. DAL
15.Chicago Bears at BAL
16.Los Angeles Chargers vs. MIN
17.Pittsburgh Steelers vs. GB
18.*Cincinnati Bengals vs. NYJ
Note: I know that Jerry Donabedian in Streaming Defenses has the Bengals higher, but I just can't do it. But maybe that's because I'm a self-hating Bengals fan.
