2025 Fantasy Outlook
Anzalone suffered a broken forearm Week 11 of the 2024 campaign, and as a result, the linebacker was limited to 63 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, while also adding five pass defenses over 10 regular-season games, all of which represented the lowest totals of Anzalone's four-year tenure with Detroit. He shifted from middle linebacker to the weak side last season, so he may not challenge the 127 tackles per season he averaged between 2022 and 2023, but Anzalone should remain a productive asset in 2025. Anzalone (hamstring) isn't practicing Monday, Nolan Bianchi of the Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
Anzalone's locked in as a starter when healthy, but he's back on the mend again in training camp after being limited to 10 regular-season appearances in 2024 by a broken forearm. Detroit will likely take a cautious approach with this new soft-tissue injury for Anzalone, who has 395 tackles over the past four regular seasons with the Lions.

Anzalone is coming off of an impressive 2023 campaign with the Lions, securing a career-high 129 tackles (85 solo), including 6.0 sacks, while also deflecting six passes and recovering a fumble over 16 games. The 29-year-old operated as the team's primary middle linebacker last season and likely will remain in that role, working alongside fellow linebackers Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes in 2024. Anzalone has averaged 127 tackles per campaign while playing nearly 2,000 defensive snaps over the last two years in Detroit, making him a safe bet for consistent production again this season.
Anzalone had a career year during his second season in Motown and ultimately crushed his previous career high with 125 tackles as the centerpiece of Detroit's defense. His involvement in pass defense (six PBUs) only added to his value, and the Lions rewarded him with a three-year, $18.75 million contract that positions Anzalone as the 10th-highest paid inside linebacker in the NFL. However, it's fair to wonder if he can build upon his 2022 production now that Malcolm Rodriguez is another year wiser while first-round rookie Jack Campbell joins the fold.
Few players benefited more than Anzalone did from Detroit's offseason switch to a 4-3 base defense. Seemingly locked into a coveted role at middle linebacker that doesn't exist in all defenses, Anzalone could be a tackle machine behind an improving Lions defensive line that features Michael Brockers and 2022 second overall pick Aidan Hutchinson. While those in dynasty leagues will want to keep in mind that Malcolm Rodriguez or Derrick Barnes could be the future of the position in Motown, the job should be Anzalone's to lose entering the coming campaign.
Coming over from New Orleans, Anzalone is reportedly familiar with the 3-4 defense that Detroit's new coaching staff is trying to install. However, the Florida product will need to beat out Jahlani Tavai for the starting job at inside linebacker next to Jamie Collins.
After landing on the IR in September, Anzalone should be fully healthy for the 2020 season. His health is a concern as he enters the final year of his rookie deal, as he's missed 26 total games due to injury through his first three seasons in the league. Despite having only one full season under his belt (2018), Anzalone is fully expected to compete for a starting job, though upstart rookie Zack Baun will be in the mix for that job too.

Seeking new deal
LBDetroit Lions
July 22, 2025
Anzalone expressed disappointment at the start of training camp that he hasn't gotten a new contract from the Lions, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Anzalone is entering the final season of a three-year, $18.75 million deal and has been a key member of Detroit's defense each of the last three seasons. He didn't disclose the details of any negotiations that have occurred, but did say he wants to be a Lion for the rest of his career. Anzalone is sidelined with a hamstring injury to begin camp, but he could top 100 tackles again in 2025 if he can play a full slate of games.
