2025 Fantasy Outlook
It was a sizable investment when the Patriots signed Gibson to a three-year, $11.25 million contract, and he played well when called upon in 2024. Gibson probably won't ever fulfill his power potential at an otherwise burly build of nearly 230 pounds, but his sub-4.4 speed pairs with plus pass-catching ability to pose an unusual overall threat from scrimmage. The selection of second-round pick TreVeyon Henderson is still a mammoth road block, even if someone acknowledges Gibson as a capable running back. Henderson was the 38th overall pick out of Ohio State because he's expected to become one of the best running backs in the NFL within the next two years, whereas Gibson might merely be useful in general. Rhamondre Stevenson is the likely starter and Henderson will likely claim most of what's left, so Gibson's best fit might be on another team. In general, though, Gibson has produced in the NFL when given snaps, so if he plays more than expected in New England he could do something worthwhile with the opportunity. Read Past Outlooks

Minor role in opener
Gibson was on the field for five of a possible 71 snaps on offense in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Raiders, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gibson was out-snapped by both Rhamondre Stevenson (46) and TreVeyon Henderson (25) in the Patriots' season opener, and that's a trend that figures to continue in the coming weeks. In his limited playing time Sunday, Gibson carried once for three yards and didn't secure his only target.

Gibson is one of the NFL's most athletic running backs in terms of size/speed and also a good pass catcher, but in Washington he was pushed aside to make room for Brian Robinson despite Robinson offering nothing in particular besides bulk. Gibson also has his flaws, including a history of fumbling (four in 2023 and six in 2021) and questionable instincts/vision that testify to his history as a converted college wide receiver. The Patriots seemingly have major expectations, having signed Gibson to a three-year, $12 million contract that includes $5.3 million guaranteed. That makes him one of the highest-paid backup RBs in the league, though incumbent starter Rhamondre Stevenson is quite simply a more rugged and consistent runner. While the Patriots likely intend for Gibson to get most of his playing time on passing downs, his 220-pound frame and track record serving as a lead runner suggest he could end up quite busy if Stevenson misses time.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May get another start in London
Gibson could be trending toward another start Sunday against the Jaguars, as Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports that Rhamondre Stevenson didn't practice Wednesday due to a foot injury.
ANALYSIS
Gibson handled 16 touches in Stevenson's absence against the Texans in Week 6, but that substantial workload netted only 43 scrimmage yards in a blowout loss. If Stevenson sits again Week 7, Gibson would likely find more success in London against a Jaguars defense that's surrendering 29.7 points per game.
