March 8, 2026
Ryland agreed to sign a one-year deal with the Cardinals on Sunday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Ryland was slated to become a restricted free agent but will remain with the Cardinals after he suffered a down year in 2025, when he converted 25 of 33 field-goal attempts and all 36 of his PATs over 17 regular-season games. The 26-year-old hit 28 of his 32 field-goal tries over 13 contests in 2024. Arizona also signed Joshua Karty from the Rams' practice squad in December, and he'll likely compete with Ryland for the starting kicker job heading into the 2026 campaign, according to Darren Urban of the team's official site.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2023
Ryland lasted just one year with the Patriots after they picked him in the fourth round of the 2023 Draft, making just 16 of 25 field-goal attempts as a rookie. The Cardinals gave him a shot anyway after long-time kicker Matt Prater suffered a knee injury, and Ryland responded by making 87.5 percent of FGAs and 96.3 percent of PATs, missing five kicks in 13 games. All four FG misses came from 40-49 yards, whereas he went 4-of-4 from 50-plus. Leg strength has never been a concern, and it looks like the Cardinals will ride with Ryland, having yet to re-sign Prater this offseason.
The Patriots drafted Ryland in the fourth round last year and then stuck with him through a disastrous rookie campaign. He led the league in missed field goals (nine) despite ranking t-27th in attempts (25), with the only semi-positive being decent work on PATs (24 of 25). Ryland went two of four from 50-plus yards and five of 10 from 40-49 yards, also missing two kicks inside of 40. The Patriots likely will bring in some competition before training camp, and even if they don't, Ryland doesn't figure to offer much fantasy value as part of a rebuilding team that will start either Jacoby Brissett or a rookie at quarterback.
The Patriots already had an accurate, veteran kicker in Nick Folk, but that didn't stop them from using a fourth-round pick on Ryland, who presumably will allow the team to try more long-distance kicks. Ryland made 77.3 percent of FGAs and 97.3 percent of PATs in five seasons between Eastern Michigan and Maryland, with a strong upward trend after struggling his first two years. The Patriots ended up trading Folk to Tennessee at the end of August, locking in Ryland as their Week 1 kicker.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could fill in for Prater in Week 5
KFree Agent
October 3, 2024
Ryland could get a chance to kick for the Cardinals in Week 5 against the 49ers, as he signed with Arizona's practice squad Wednesday while Matt Prater didn't practice due to a knee injury, per Zach Gershman of the Cardinals' official site.
ANALYSIS
Prater still has a few days to recover, but if he remains unavailable due to the knee injury, Ryland would be in line to be elevated to the active roster before Sunday's game against the 49ers. Ryland was a fourth-round pick of the Patriots in the 2023 NFL Draft, but the team quickly lost patience with the young kicker after he made only 16 of 25 field-goal attempts as a rookie.
