Daniel Carlson

30-Year-Old KickerK
Las Vegas Raiders
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Carlson's career 87.5 percent conversion rate on field goals is fourth all-time, and he's made 74.4 percent of his kicks from 50-plus yards. He's consistently been a top kicker in real life, but that doesn't necessarily equate to top-10 value in fantasy, as lack of volume on a bad team can outweigh the impact of personal skill. Carlson finished 10th among kickers in fantasy points last season, after being t-25th in 2023 and No. 2 in 2022. He's good enough to be an every-week starter in fantasy if the Raiders offense is even decent, like in 2022, which may happen thanks to an offseason trade for QB Geno Smith. Anything beyond 'decent' is a long shot, as Smith seemingly lacks a deep threat and reliable blocking to support short-game-weapons Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers. Read Past Outlooks

September 7, 2025
Carlson converted two of three field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries in Las Vegas' 20-13 win over the Patriots on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Carlson missed his first field goal versus New England, pushing his 58-yard attempt wide to the left at the end of the first half. He came back to make 51- and 40-yard attempts in the second half. Carlson is in his ninth season as the Raiders' kicker after he made 34 of his 40 field-goal tries and 23 of 25 extra-point attempts last season.

Carlson is a fantastic kicker who has put up some big seasons while attached to mediocre offenses, but he wasn't able to overcome difficult circumstances in 2023, finishing just 25th at the position in fantasy scoring despite making all his PATs (32) and missing only four field goals (26 of 30). He was the highest-scoring kicker in 2021 and No. 2 in 2022, converting 17 of 20 attempts from 50-plus yards between the two seasons. He's hit 78.1 percent of his kicks from that distance in his career and 88.0 percent overall (fifth all-time), but a return to fantasy relevance in his age-29 season is far from guaranteed given the Raiders' continued uncertainty at QB.
Carlson has earned a lofty spot in the kicker rankings on account of his own prowess more so than expectations for his offense. The Raiders were a disappointment in Year 1 of the Josh McDaniels era, and Year 2 improvement is far from guaranteed with Jimmy Garoppolo the new quarterback. Carlson, however, is unquestionably phenomenal, ranking third all-time in FG percentage while converting a ridiculous 24 of 29 attempts from 50-plus yards. He's had a little more trouble in the 40-49 range (33 of 44), but only by his own lofty standards. Carlson is the only kicker with 30 or more FG conversions each of the last three seasons, knocking home at least 33 each year.
Carlson has made 89.3 percent of his field-goal tries in four seasons with the Raiders, peaking last year as the NFL leader in both attempts and makes. He should be busy again this season after the team made a number of moves to improve, including a trade for WR Davante Adams. A repeat of 43 FGAs is too much to ask, but Carlson should offset some of the field-goal regression with additional extra-point tries.
Carlson's 2020 was a huge improvement from 2019, though the jump in FG percentage was partially a product of his league-high 18 FGAs from 20-29 yards. He also got far more chances overall -- sixth in FGAs and ninth in PATs -- buoyed by a career year from QB Derek Carr. Even if he can't match last year's pinpoint accuracy, Carlson is a solid kicker and plays for a team that has most of its talent on offense.
Carlson is attached to a Raiders offense that took a big step forward in 2019, but his own work was far less impressive, including four misses from 40-49 yards and another two from 50-plus yards. He also didn't see a ton of volume, with the Raiders favoring a slow pace of play and struggling to get stops on defense. The third-year pro could find himself in a preseason job battle with undrafted rookie Dominik Eberle.
Selected in the fifth round last year, Carlson lasted just two games with the Vikings but did nice work after resurfacing in Oakland. He missed one kick, a 45-yarder, in 10 games with the Raiders, setting him up to handle the job without competition this summer. The additions of Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams create upside for the Raiders offense, but overall team strength remains a concern.
Carlson leaves Auburn as the reigning SEC Special Teams Player of the Year and two-time first-team all-conference selection after converting 100 percent of his PATs and over 90 percent of his kicks from within 40 yards over three seasons. The Vikings spent a fifth-round pick on him despite re-signing last year's starter, Kai Forbath, in March. Since not many kickers historically have been drafted that high, it's safe to assume the rookie is the favorite to win out – especially given the non-guaranteed nature of Forbath's one-year, $775,000 contract, the 6-5 rookie could become a decent fantasy option while serving as the leg of one of the league's better offenses.

May get extension
KLas Vegas Raiders
June 23, 2025
Carlson is a candidate to get a contract extension from Las Vegas, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old kicker is coming off another strong campaign, converting at least 85 percent of his field-goal attempts for the fifth straight season and the sixth time in seven years as the Raiders' primary placekicker. Carlson's seven made field goals of 50 yards or longer on 11 attempts was also the second-best performance of his career from long range, bested only by an 11-for-13 effort in 2022. He has one year and $4.35 million remaining on his current contract.
