Jaylon Johnson

26-Year-Old CornerbackCB
Chicago Bears
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Johnson had 53 tackles and two interceptions in 2024, one year removed from a career-high four picks. While his ball production dipped, he remained the Bears' top cover corner and is under contract through 2027. Johnson has just seven interceptions over five seasons but offers a steady tackle floor. He's locked into a starting role and brings stability, though his fantasy upside remains capped. Read Past Outlooks

Johnson (groin/calf) was estimated to be a full participant at the Bears' walkthrough Wednesday, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson was sidelined Week 1 while dealing with both a groin issue and a calf injury, but he appears to be on track to return to action Sunday against the Lions. Head coach Ben Johnson was optimistic that the cornerback will be able to play in Week 2, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, but Johnson's status at practice the rest of the week will be worth monitoring.

Johnson is an example of a very good player not being a great IDP. Last year, he played extremely well in coverage. As a result, opposing teams often chose to throw passes in the direction of the lesser Chicago cornerbacks. During his four seasons, the Utah product has recorded between 35 and 46 tackles. Even though Johnson intercepted four passes in 2023, the corner has a total of five in his career. Unless he sees a sharp increase in passes thrown his way, he'll remain a low-ceiling IDP.
After being selected in the second round of the 2020 draft by the Bears, Johnson enters his fourth year with the team. It is also the last year of his rookie contract. During his three seasons, he missed 11 games. In addition, Johnson has only intercepted one pass, though he averaged 42 tackles. He'll need to prove he's reliable to retain his starting job, especially after the team spent second-round picks the past two years on Kyler Gordon and Tyrique Stevenson.
Johnson has posted similar stats in the two years he's been with the Bears. He's averaged 3.3 tackles in his career but has just a single interception. However, he played 889 snaps last year, and it's possible that opportunity leads to increased production. He could be worth a late draft pick in IDP leagues after the high-end CB options are off the board.
With top cornerback Kyle Fuller no longer on the Bears, Johnson becomes the team's top option at the position. Otherwise, question marks abound in this group. Consequently, opposing quarterbacks may choose to attack other corners, which could lead to a downturn in Johnson's stats. As a rookie last year, the second-round pick accounted for 15 passes defended in 13 games while allowing a QB rating of 96.9 on passes thrown his way. In terms of Johnson's potential production, it's difficult to predict, based on whether offenses choose to attack him, making him a risky investment as an IDP.
After letting Prince Amukamara walk in free agency, the Bears spent a second-round pick on Johnson, who has an excellent chance to start at cornerback Week 1. Assuming he seizes that role, he'll immediately have IDP value, as he should have a floor of a few tackles per game. However, because Chicago doesn't possess an elite offense, the team may not be in many shootouts, which could limit the number of passes opposing offenses have to throw and thus hurt Johnson's fantasy upside.

The Bears re-signed Johnson to a four-year, $76 million deal with $54 million in guaranteed money on Thursday, Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN report.
ANALYSIS
Johnson will get $43.8 million as a signing bonus and draw a 2024 salary of $28 million, according to Schefter's and Fowler's sources. While the Bears did not confirm the financial details, it's no secret they were intent on keeping the Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro in the fold following a season in which the conerback recorded a career-high four interceptions, including a pick-six.
