2025 Projections
Resets safety market with new contract
The Lions and Joseph reached an agreement on a four-year, $86 million extension Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
In the midst of many of his fellow Detroit defenders getting injured in 2024, Joseph played in all 18 games between the regular season and playoffs, and he parlayed it into a breakout as a playmaker with an NFL-leading nine interceptions, which surpassed the eight combined picks he tallied in his first two pro campaigns. The 2022 third-round pick has reset the safety market with the highest overall and annual values at the position, and he'll continue to hold up the back end of the Lions defense for the foreseeable future.

2022
Joseph had himself an impressive 2023 campaign with Detroit, securing 82 tackles, 11 pass deflections and four interceptions while not allowing a touchdown in coverage over 15 games. The 23-year-old will enter his third season in the NFL as the Lions' undisputed top option at free safety as both Tracy Walker and C.J. Gardner-Johnson no longer are in the picture. Joseph could be set to cross the 100-tackle threshold this season while working alongside Brian Branch in what Detroit's defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn hopes to be an improved secondary in 2024.

Scores lucrative extension
Joseph inked a four-year, $86 million extension with the Lions on Wednesday that makes him the league's highest-paid safety, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Joseph was set to enter the final year of his rookie deal absent the extension, but he was expected to be rewarded and secured for multiple years following a stellar first three NFL seasons. The Illinois product was especially effective in 2024, recording a career-high nine interceptions, including a pick-six, while tying a career best with 83 total tackles across 17 regular-season games.
