During his rookie campaign last year, Vidal logged 43 carries for 155 yards while adding five catches for 62 yards and a TD in 10 regular-season games, while working in a backfield that also included J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. Ahead of Week 1 this time around, the 2024 sixth-rounder figures to compete with Hassan Haskins for depth slotting behind newcomers Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton, with Vidal's case for a roster spot/role in 2025 possibly hinging on him demonstrating that he can be a factor in the Chargers' passing game. Emerges as lead back in win
Vidal carried the ball 18 times for 124 yards and also caught three of his four targets for 14 yards and a touchdown in the 29-27 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.

Despite reports earlier this week Vidal and Hassan Haskins would be a part of a committee, the second-year back proved definitively he was the more explosive player tallying 138 total yards on 21 touches to Haskins' 23 yards on seven opportunities. Omarion Hampton (ankle) is expected to be out at minimum a month, and while the Chargers have reportedly been sniffing around available options according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Vidal's massive outing might quiet the trade calls for another week. It's worth noting Miami's run defense is one of the worst in the league, and it should be tougher sledding at home against the Colts next week.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
A 2024 sixth-round pick, Vidal joins a Chargers backfield with minimal experience beyond ex-Ravens Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins. The rookie out of Troy has traits that should appeal to new Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman, as Vidal was tough to bring down in college and took 297 carries for 1,661 yards and 14 TDs last season alone. He's not especially elusive, but he showed potential in the passing game with at least 18 receptions in each of his four seasons at Troy, and he earned praise from both coaches and scouts for his pass blocking. Vidal's combination of bulk (5-8, 213) and speed (4.46 40) makes him far more interesting for fantasy than a typical sixth-round pick, especially within the context of a Chargers offense that's looking to run the ball more often despite having a shaky group of veteran RBs.

Vidal, a sixth-round pick in 2024, hasn't been a whole lot better and has averaged 3.7 yards on 47 career totes, but he likely represents a better early-down option than Haskins.
