Mason Taylor

21-Year-Old Tight EndTE
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Taylor found an ideal landing spot in the second round of the 2025 Draft, going to the Jets with the 42nd overall pick after a college career in which he averaged 436 yards and two touchdowns per season at LSU. He’s one of the youngest incoming rookies, celebrating his 21st birthday two weeks after the draft, but he may nonetheless prove a quick study in the NFL, seeing as he was a three-year starter in the SEC and is the son of Hall of Famer Jason Taylor. (Mason) Taylor skipped drills at the combine before boosting his draft stock at LSU's pro day, where he ran a 4.65 40 and put up a lineman-like total of 28 bench-press reps at 6-foot-5, 246 pounds. While impressive raw strength doesn't always translate to good blocking, Taylor has a nice opportunity to be the Week 1 starter for a team whose veteran tight ends have failed to make a mark in the NFL as either blockers or pass catchers (combined career totals of 644 yards and one TD). The Jets figure to deploy a run-first offense with dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields, but there's nonetheless an opportunity for the rookie to see a good number of targets, as the team lacks weapons beyond WR Garrett Wilson and RB Breece Hall. The Jets selected Taylor in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 42nd overall.
ANALYSIS
Tight end was a glaring need for the Jets in this draft, and they managed to wait until the second round and still get one of the best prospects at the position. The son of NFL Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, Mason starred at LSU as a three-year starter. He had at least 35 receptions in each of his three years at LSU and had an expanded role in 2024 with 55 grabs for 546 yards and two touchdowns. Taylor did not test at the NFL Scouting Combine but ran a 4.68 40-yard dash at the LSU Pro Day at 6-foot-5 and 246 pounds. He has a fantasy-relevant skill set, and the landing spot couldn't be better for the prospects of early-career production.

Stepping up as TE1 in OTAs
TENew York Jets
June 8, 2025
Taylor looks the most ready of the Jets' tight ends to make an impact in the passing game based on his play in OTAs, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has made some nice catches in practice while working with starting quarterback Justin Fields. The rookie second-round pick out of LSU is well positioned to start right away if he can beat out Stone Smartt and Jeremy Ruckert. Taylor already looks like the best pass catcher of the group but will need to prove himself as a blocker, though head coach Aaron Glenn has praised Taylor's blocking so far in OTAs.
