Trey Benson

23-Year-Old Running BackRB
Arizona Cardinals
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Benson was viewed as a raw prospect out of Florida State, so the fact that he played only 131 snaps as a rookie doesn't prove anything conclusively. He overcame a brutal knee injury at Oregon before transferring to Florida State, which explains why the 2024 third-round pick finished his collegiate career with so little usage (316 career carries). What made Benson interesting as a prospect was his unusual combination of speed (4.39 40) and size (6-feet, 216 pounds). Few prospects can boast the sum of physical force and breakaway speed that Benson does on a given play, and that's what allowed him to be so productive with his limited touches at FSU (6.1 yards per carry, 24 rushing touchdowns). If Benson can iron out the rougher parts of his game, the results could be impressive. In the meantime, though, he remains a developmental guy behind a proven workhorse in James Conner. Leading rusher in Week 1 win

September 7, 2025
Benson carried the ball eight times for 69 yards and caught his only target for six yards in Sunday's 20-13 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
The second-year back led Arizona in rushing thanks to a 52-yard scamper around right end on the team's first drive of the second half. James Conner saw 12 carries but gained only 39 yards, with his longest run going for 12, and the split both of touches and of production bodes well for Benson as the season moves forward. He'll look to continue carving out a significant role in the offense at home Week 2 against the Panthers.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Benson fell to the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft in part because of durability concerns related to a brutal multi-ligament knee tear at Oregon at the end of the 2020 season. He came back strong at Florida State in 2022 and 2023 to play 26 consecutive games and score 24 touchdowns, though his upright running style invites big hits at times. Beyond those concerns, Benson is close to blue-chip across most considerations. Few runners combine home run speed with standout raw power, but Benson showed both traits at FSU and then confirmed it at the Combine with a 4.39 40 at 6-0, 216. He was immensely explosive as a mid-volume, high-efficiency runner for the Seminoles, averaging 6.1 yards on 316 carries across two seasons, so he could make an impact in Arizona coming out of the bullpen behind James Conner. Conner had one of his best seasons in 2023 and won't be pushed aside easily, but his extensive injury history gives reason to project a start or two for Benson in an improving Arizona offense.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Co-RB1 with Conner?
RBArizona Cardinals
August 3, 2025
Benson appears poised to see a larger role in his second season in the NFL, with James Conner saying Saturday, "[Benson's going to] play a lot this year," Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
"It's the situation we are in, and we can't shy away from it. ... We want to become the best rushing team in football. We need that from [Benson]," Conner later added, per Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site. It appears that offensive coordinator Drew Petzing is pushing for the running game to be the identity of the offense, which would put Benson in a position to see a larger role in 2025. Benson finished his rookie year with 63 carries for 291 yards and one touchdown while adding six catches on nine targets for 59 yards over 13 regular-season games.
