NHL Friday Night: Top Betting Picks and Parlay Insights

San Jose Sharks at New Jersey Devils

The Sharks (1-4-2) and Devils (6-1-0) meet at Prudential Center in Newark at 7:00 p.m. ET.

While San Jose struggled mightily last season, the Sharks actually ended up sweeping the regular-season series against the Devils, including a 1-0 win in November in Newark as a heavy underdog (+270) as the Under (6.5) obviously cashed quite easily. Unfortunately for the Sharks, Mackenzie Blackwood made 44 saves in that win, but he is now plying his trade with the Avalanche.

The Sharks picked up their first win of the season Thursday in a 6-5 overtime victory over the Rangers, cashing the Over for the fifth time in seven games.

San Jose's issues with winning haven't been because of the offense. It is coming up with plenty of scoring, going for at least three goals in five of the team's seven games. However, the Sharks' defense and goaltending has been amiss, allowing four or more goals in six of seven matchups, and at least three goals in each of the games.

In Thursday's win over the Rangers, Macklin Celebrini had a hat trick, with two even-strength goals and a power-play marker, while Will Smith had two goals, including the game-winning tally in overtime. Smith ended up with a four-point night. William Eklund also had three assists with a plus-3 rating.

The Devils lost 6-3 in Carolina on Oct. 9, but they haven't lost since. New Jersey has rattled off six consecutive victories while going for three or more goals in all seven games, and 14 total goals in the past three wins, or 4.7 goals per game (GPG). After allowing six goals against the Hurricanes, the Devils have allowed just 12 goals in the past six matchups, or 2.0 GPG.

Jake Allen has done a majority of the work in the crease with Jacob Markstrom (lower body) on the shelf. Nico Daws picked up the win over the Wild in the second end of a back-to-back Wednesday. It will be back to Allen (3-0-0, 1.91 GAA, .931 SV%) against the Sharks.

While the Sharks swept the season series in 2024-25, the Devils are red-hot. Let's back the home side on the puck line, and we'll go Over.

  • Devils -1.5 (-130 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
  • Over 6 Goals (-107 at BetRivers Sportsbook)

Calgary Flames at Winnipeg Jets

The Flames (1-6-1) and Jets (5-2-0) is a tale of two teams for Friday's meeting at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Winnipeg, last season's Presidents' Trophy winner, won three of four meetings last season, although Calgary scored a 3-1 win as moderate underdogs (+140) at Canada Life Centre on Jan. 18. The Over-Under split 2-2 in the four meetings last season, but the total has gone high in five of the past seven matchups dating back to Oct. 11, 2023.

Calgary has gotten off to a horrific start. After a promising 4-3 shootout win in Edmonton on Oct. 8, the Flames have managed to pick up just one point out of an available 14 in seven games since. That lone point came in a 2-1 overtime loss to the visiting Canadiens.

The Flames have scored two or fewer points in the seven-game nosedive, scoring just 1.3 GPG, while allowing 3.7 GPG in that span.

For the Jets, Eric Comrie (1-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .943 SV%) is likely to be opposed by Dustin Wolf (1-5-1, 3.61 GAA, .876 SV%) after Connor Hellebuyck started Thursday against the Kraken. Although Hellebuyck will likely sit, Comrie was effective in his first start this year, making Friday's matchup a very tall order for the skidding Flames.

Let's roll with the Jets on the puck line as heavy favorites, and we'll go low on the total, as the Flames are unlikely to scratch out much offense against Comrie.
