Lock signed with the Giants in March as the backup to Daniel Jones, who might not be ready for the start of the season after a November ACL injury and hasn’t exactly cemented himself as the Giants’ long-term answer anyway. The door seemingly is cracked for Lock to take the starting job, at least early in the season. That wasn’t the case the last two years in Seattle, where Lock was firmly behind Geno Smith, which partially explains why he bolted for New York. At 6-4, 228, Lock has prototypical size and arm strength, and he was credible in two starts for an injured Smith last season, completing 68.8 percent of his attempts at a 7.5-yard average depth. He won’t have as much help in New York, with Malik Nabers, the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft, leading an otherwise mediocre group of skill-position players that had Saquon Barkley replaced by Devin Singletary this offseason.

Locked in as QB2 in Seattle?
With the Seahawks taking trade calls for Sam Howell, Lock appears slated to serve as the backup quarterback behind Sam Darnold in 2025, Jeremy Fowler and Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With 2023 fifth-round quarterback Jaren Hall also on the roster, the Seahawks have a clear surplus at the position. Lock signed a two-year deal with Seattle on April 11, and with Darnold locked in as the starter, the writing is on the wall for Howell to be dealt to another team. Lock appeared in eight regular-season games -- including five starts -- for the Giants in 2024, completing 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,071 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions while turning 18 carries into 133 yards and two scores.
