2025 Fantasy Outlook
Few running backs in NFL history come close to the raw athletic ability of Guerendo, who at 6 feet, 220 pounds has blazing speed (4.33 40) and elite explosiveness (41.5-inch vertical, 129-inch broad jump). It's such a shame, then, that Guerendo may be one of the most fragile RB prospects in recent memory. He had horrendous injury luck for all but one of the past six years, at one point in college suffering hamstring tears two years in a row before suffering a Lisfranc injury the third year. In his 2024 rookie year, Guerendo missed time at various points with hamstring, groin and foot injuries, and in the season finale against Arizona he suffered an MCL sprain and ankle sprain in the same leg. As if to make all of this more tormenting, Guerendo has real skill in addition to his ridiculous athleticism - he runs with power and is likely an above-average receiver - but it just isn't clear he can ever stay healthy to realize his upside. For now, Guerendo will compete with August trade acquisition Brian Robinson for the second spot on San Francisco's RB depth chart, behind workhorse Christian McCaffrey. Read Past Outlooks

Limited to special teams
Guerendo played 15 snaps on special teams and did not receive a carry in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
The good news for Guerendo was that he was fully cleared from the shoulder injury that limited him in camp. That bad news for the sophomore tailback is that new addition Brian Robinson usurped him on the depth chart. Guerendo dropped to third in the pecking order and was limited to special teams, returning one kickoff for 16 yards. In his current role, Guerendo provides no fantasy utility heading into next Sunday's tilt against the Saints.

A 4.33 40-yard time and a strong overall performance at the Combine launched Guerendo up draft boards, and the 49ers traded up in the fourth round to make sure they got the 221-pound speedster. Kyle Shanahan's offense is arguably the best in the league for a running back, especially one with game-breaking speed, though Guerendo figures to begin his career behind three-down workhorse Christian McCaffrey and the brittle Elijah Mitchell. Guerendo was never a lead back during his time at Wisconsin and Louisville, but he averaged 6.1 yards on 132 carries for the Cardinals last season and now becomes one of the fastest running backs in the NFL.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Significant competition added
Guerendo is now joined on the 49ers' running back depth chart by Brian Robinson, who was traded from the Commanders to San Francisco on Friday, as reported by John Keim and Adam Schefter of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo showed plenty or promise with his opportunities during his rookie campaign, averaging 5.0 yards per carry on 84 rush attempts while adding four rushing touchdowns. However, the second-year back has a fairly lengthy injury history dating back to college and just overcame a shoulder injury, which may have played a role in the team's decision to acquire another starting-quality running back in Robinson. Guerendo may still have a leg up on the No. 2 job to begin the season due to Robinson's unfamiliarity with the playbook, but any absences on the part of the former could lead to some longer-term reordering of the depth chart behind McCaffrey.
