Re-signs with San Francisco
Tonges re-signed with the 49ers on a one-year, $1.03 million contract Thursday.
ANALYSIS
It's the value of the exclusive rights tender for Tonges, who appeared in 16 regular-season games last season but saw just 34 snaps on offense. He played 232 snaps on special teams, and that figures to be where he'll fit in next season, should he make the 53-man roster.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
After spending the entire 2023 campaign hidden on San Francisco's practice squad, Tonges was a surprise addition to the 49ers' 2024 53-man roster. With 2023 third-round pick Cameron Latu latching on with Cleveland in the aftermath, the 2022 UDFA out of the University of California leapfrogged up the depth chart to become one of George Kittle's primary backups. With just one official target and no receptions in his first two years in the NFL, we may finally get a glimpse of how Tonges operates as backup tight end in Kyle Shanahan's complex offensive scheme.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Steps up after Kittle injury
Tonges could be in line for a larger role in the coming weeks, as Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports that George Kittle will have an MRI within the next 24 hours to determine the severity of the hamstring injury he suffered in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Tonges came into Sunday's game without a catch in 20 NFL games, but he stepped up after Kittle's injury with three catches for 15 yards, including the game-winning four-yard touchdown catch with 1:34 left in the fourth quarter. Luke Farrell had one catch for four yards against Seattle and could also see additional opportunities if Kittle's hamstring injury sidelines the star tight end for additional game action.
