Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Wright's rookie season was disappointing, but patience is warranted in light of his age (22 in April) and the fact that he was never a full-time player in college at Tennessee. The 2024 fourth-round pick still has plenty of potential, thanks to his 4.38 speed at 5-foot-11, 210. De'Von Achane is too light to do everything in the Miami backfield, and with Raheem Mostert no longer on the roster, Wright seemingly had a clear path to the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. Things didn't go well for him this summer, however, with Wright suffering a leg injury that's expected to keep him out for the start of the season. Rookie sixth-round pick Ollie Gordon stepped up in the meantime and could potentially become the long-term No. 2 back behind Achane if he handles the role well early on. Read Past Outlooks

Won't play in Week 1
Wright (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's season opener against the Colts, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, coach Mike McDaniel revealed Aug. 28 that Wright had a "small procedure" done to address a lower leg injury, with the Dolphins' official injury report subsequently having clarified that the 2024 fourth-rounder is dealing with a knee issue. In any case, Wright will be sidelined this weekend, at a minimum, while the Dolphins haven't yet outlined a timetable for when the running back might return to practice. In Wright's absence, Ollie Gordon is slated to handle complementary snaps behind De'Von Achane (calf), with JaMycal Hasty and Jeff Wilson candidates to be elevated from Miami's practice squad ahead of Week 1 action.

How do Jaylen Wright's measurables compare to other running backs?
This section compares his draft workout metrics with players at the same position. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that metric and it would be considered average.

Most draft analysts expected Wright to go sooner than the fourth round this spring, and the combination of a crowded Miami backfield and disappointing draft capital doesn't exactly hint at big-time production Year 1. On the other hand, Raheem Mostert has shown that a running back with Wright's approximate height/weight/speed dimensions can post big numbers in the Mike McDaniel offense. Wright ran a 4.38 40 at 5-11, 210, confirming that he has speed to turn the corner and split safeties in the NFL, after he frequently did so at Tennessee. He averaged 6.0 yards on 146 carries in 2022 and then 7.4 YPC across 137 carries his final season, providing first-rate efficiency on medium-sized workloads in a spread offense. Wright probably isn't much of a power runner and caught only 30 passes in three collegiate seasons, but if Mostert or De'Von Achane misses any time the rookie should offer timely firepower as a rushing specialist.

Believes he can take big step
Wright, who logged only 71 total touches across 15 regular-season games as a rookie in 2024, is ready to make more of an impact in his second season, Bobby Kownack of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Tennessee product doesn't lack for speed or upside, but as a rookie, he contended with De'Von Achane, Raheem Mostert and even Jeff Wilson ahead of him on the depth chart. With Mostert now in Las Vegas and Wilson not brought back, Wright believes he has the inside track to the No. 2 job behind Achane, despite the presence of veteran addition Alexander Mattison and promising rookie sixth-round pick Ollie Gordon II. "Pass game, I'm going to be way more involved this year," Wright said. "Way more involved just in everything. Run game, pass game, pass protection, everything, so it's going to be really good."
