2025 Fantasy Outlook
Pickett was the first signal calller the QB-needy Browns added during the offseason. That Cleveland traded an asset for him fueled speculation that the 2022 first-rounder could be the team's top quarterback this year. Much has changed since early March, however. The Browns signed Joe Flacco, who has experience with the coaching staff, and drafted two quarterbacks (Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders). Flacco looked like the best option during OTAs, and his experience is expected to give him the edge out of the gate this preseason. Pickett thus could reprise the backup role he had with the Eagles in 2024 and given that Cleveland declined to pick up his fifth-year option, he could be one-and-done in his new locale. First go with starters for 11-on-11
Pickett got the first crack with the starters during Cleveland's 11-on-11 session Wednesday, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Pickett got the nod Wednesday to operate as the team's first quarterback during 11-on-11, while Joe Flacco sat out the session. Flacco saw the first reps with the first-team offense during a modified 7-on-7 versus Cleveland's No. 1 back seven. Considering it was the team's first full-team workout, it'd be unwise to read into it deeply, but it appears Pickett is a step above rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, and he could be the early favorite to compete with Joe Flacco for the starting role in Week 1 versus the Bengals.

Pickett never regained the starting job last season after injuring his right ankle in Week 13. The Steelers then pulled the plug for good on the 20th overall pick in the 2022 draft, trading him to Philadelphia in March. In 25 games (24 starts) for the Steelers, Pickett was bottom 10 in most passing stats, including ranking 42nd among 44 qualified QBs with a 6.3 YPA. He finished with 13 TDs and 13 INTs. In Philadelphia he’ll have a lot more help than he ever had in Western Pennsylvania, with wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, tight end Dallas Goedert and now RB Saquon Barkley providing more than enough firepower. And if starter Jalen Hurts goes down, the 6-3, 220-pound Pickett might benefit from the Tush Push as well -- he ran for 237 yards and three scores his rookie year but then dropped to 54 yards and one TD last season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might be cut at end of camp
Pickett isn't guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster if he doesn't win the starting job in training camp, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old was a first-round pick of the Steelers in the 2022 Draft but is already on his third organization after winning a Super Bowl ring with the Eagles last season. Pickett is competing with Joe Flacco for the No. 1 job with the Browns after being acquired in a March trade, but with two rookies behind them on the depth chart in Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, there may be room for only one of the experienced QBs on the final roster. In that scenario, Pickett could be traded once again to a team looking for a capable backup if he doesn't secure a spot with the Browns.
