2025 Fantasy Outlook
After utilizing him in an all-around role as a rookie fourth-round pick in 2023 the Bears for some reason reduced Johnson to something of a short-yardage specialist in 2024, with a disproportionate percentage of his meager carry count occurring near the goal line. Six of Johnson's 81 rookie-year carries occurred within the five-yard line, while in 2024 it was nine of Johnson's 55 carries that occurred within the five. Johnson (6-0, 219) is definitely the most powerful of the running backs on the Bears roster – a group otherwise headlined by D'Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai and Travis Homer for the time being – and if new coach Ben Johnson wants to identify someone for the David Montgomery functions in the offense then it would be Johnson who's clearly best built for grinder functions. The question of how good Johnson might be in that role is less clear, and the Bears remain a candidate to pickup a veteran running back by signing or trade. Read Past Outlooks

Won't play in Week 8
Johnson (back) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
The third-year back from Texas didn't practice all week after likely sustaining a back injury in the Week 7 win over the Saints, so it's no surprise that he'll be sidelined Sunday. With Johnson out, the only Bears running backs without injury designations heading into the Week 8 contest are Kyle Monangai and Travis Homer.

Johnson was a good backup to Bijan Robinson at Texas and figures to settle in as a backup at the NFL level as well. The combination of special teams value and solid pass blocking might even allow Johnson to real-life value relative to the fourth-round pick Chicago spent on him last spring, but he's less promising for fantasy due to subpar speed (4.58 40) and agility. Johnson is also less powerful than one might expect of a 220-pound running back, and he'll have to compete with Khalil Herbert for backup reps behind new starter D'Andre Swift. Regardless of depth chart standing, Johnson and Herbert would figure to split snaps if Swift were to miss games because of an injury.

Underrated on star-laden offense
Johnson is a member of a star-studded Bears offense that is being overlooked going into the 2024 season, Tom Blair of NFL.com opines.
ANALYSIS
Blair recognizes that Johnson is notably down the pecking order of the Bears' noteworthy array of skill-position players, a group that now includes Johnson's new backfield mate D'Andre Swift. Johnson already offered glimpses of his potential last season as a rookie while compiling 561 total yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns, and Blair notes Swift's production seemed to wane down the stretch last season with the Eagles, when he logged a career-high 268 touches.
