A major theme for this game will be the weather (yes, we have NFL weather data here at RotoWire), so let's get to that first. As I write this, it is nine degrees in Chicago. Since most of you are used to seeing a double-digit number preceding the word "degrees", let me reiterate: NINE DEGREES. By 5:00 PM Central, it is supposed to start snowing. By kickoff, the temp moves to a balmy 18 degrees with a windchill of five behind a 12-15 mph breeze.
Bottom line: it gonna be cold.
As for the odds themselves, the spread opened in LA's favor at 4.5 and has vacillated between 3.5 and 4.5 ever since. Predictably, the total was impacted the most by the weather forecast as it opened at 51.5 before steadily falling to the current 48.5. Most players will tell you, rain/snow doesn't affect players or scoring much, but wind and cold certainly do. Bitter cold like this will test individual mental toughness, and anything that is banged up (see: Matthew Stafford) will be magnified. Although, Stafford is used to being in frozen chambers, so maybe he will feel rejuvenated? Stafford did spend many seasons in Detroit playing cold games in Green Bay and Chicago.....hmmm.

Bears vs Rams Betting Picks This Week
At this point, it would be borderline irresponsible to bet against the Bears as a home underdog, so I will tell you right now, I will not be picking the Rams. I mentioned above that Matthew Stafford has played in a quite a few cold-weather games in his long career, and his results have been decent.
However, combining cold and rain/snow paints a picture: Stafford is just 1-9 in games where the temp is under 40 degrees WITH rain or snow. If the weather negates the Rams' passing attack, it also negates a major weakness in the Bears' secondary. On the other side, if Chicago chooses to start playing before the 13:00 mark of the fourth quarter, they could be unstoppable. Right now, they are riding a perfect combination of sky-high confidence and Ben Johnson's unrelenting coaching, and I'm not getting in the way of it here.
I tend to think this will be a lower-scoring game, but I think the value is on OUR Chicago Bears getting all those points. Chicago's strong running game can control games and this is a perfect situation for it. All things equal and on a fast track, the Rams likely win big. But, this game will feature none of those things, which is yet another gift from the Upside Down in this crazy, Stranger Things-like season for the Bears.
