I definitely benefited from a few fortunate situations last week, but I know over the course of the season that stuff always ends up evening out. Week 3 certainly looks more challenging across the board, to the point where I'd probably sit out of most of these games if I wasn't pressed for publication.

It shouldn't matter for this conversation, but I'm already dreading bye weeks approaching in two weeks. Especially with the scourge of injuries to the quarterbacks in recent weeks, I'm anxious the quality of teams to watch on any given Sunday is going to dip tremendously.

NFL Week 3 Predictions

In this article, we also take a look at NFL Week 3 odds and our predictions for each NFL game. Home teams are listed last.

Dolphins vs. Bills

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Dolphins vs. BillsBills -12.5Buffalo -800; Miami +55049.5

Usually I like to zag when the general public seems to be zigging on a team from a morale perspective, but I'm not sure how you can watch this Miami team over the past two weeks, or really any of the Mike McDaniel postgame press conferences and think Thursday's contest will be competitive at all.

Spread Pick: Bills -12.5
Total Pick: Under 49.5

Falcons vs. Panthers

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Falcons vs. PanthersFalcons -5.5Atlanta -230; Carolina +19043.5

I feel far more confident the over is a lock as opposed to assuming the Falcons cover. But this will be a litmus test for me because I assumed Atlanta was just one of the better bad teams until they decimated J.J. McCarthy and company Sunday night. And even if Atlanta just is "good" bad team, where the Panthers fit in among the league's worst teams will certainly be solidified here in Week 3.

Spread Pick: Falcons -5.5
Total Pick: Over 43.5

Packers vs. Browns

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Packers vs. BrownsPackers -8.5Green Bay -520; Cleveland +39041.5

In years past, the Packers under head coach Matt LaFleur would have barely escaped this type of game with a win. Typically Green Bay, especially with high expectations, plays down to the competition, but for whatever the reason I'd be surprised if that occurred this week. Jordan Love has been tremendous through two weeks and even if Zach Tom (oblique) and Aaron Banks (ankle/groin) are unable to play, I have confidence the Packers can hold up against this pass rush.

Spread Pick: Packers -8.5
Total Pick: Over 41.5

Texans vs. Jaguars

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Texans vs. JaguarsJaguars -1.5Jacksonville -120; Houston +10044.5

This line absolutely stinks of Vegas tomfoolery and I won't fall for it. Jacksonville is better than they've been in past years, but I refuse to believe the Texans are the eyesore their record would indicate. There's no way Houston is going to be 0-3 to start the season.

Spread Pick: Texans +1.5
Total Pick: Under 44.5

Bengals vs. Vikings

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Bengals vs. VikingsVikings -3Minnesota -170; Cincinnati +14242.5

Man, this game would have arguably looked like a marquee matchup in the beginning of September. Three weeks later and it's one of those that most people probably won't even watch. I feel far more confident the total is just outright wrong than I do with the spread, but I guess I have some degree of faith Jake Browning can get the ball to his playmakers enough to make this competitive. At least I feel better about that than Carson Wentz turning back the clock in just his third start since 2022.

Spread Pick: Bengals +3
Total Pick: Over 42.5

Steelers vs. Patriots

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Steelers vs. PatriotsSteelers -1.5Pittsburgh -122; New England +10244.5

I have absolutely zero clue how this game will go and I'd advise everyone to completely stay away from this. I don't think Pittsburgh is a bad team necessarily, but I think they basically have to be perfect to win football games right now. The Patriots could probably be described the same way, so I'll default to the home field advantage, although I know that matters far less in the year 2025.

Spread Pick: Patriots +1.5
Total Pick: Under 44.5

Rams vs. Eagles

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Rams vs. EaglesEagles -3.5Philadelphia -185; Los Angeles +15444.5

Thankfully at least one of these games rocks in Week 3. I've been an adamant proponent of just taking the three points and not worrying about the extra half in these situations, but Vegas is going to get me here. The Rams are not as good of a team as the one that nearly knocked off Philly in the divisional round last year, but the Eagles cannot continue to play the way they have the first two weeks and expect to get wins against quality opponents. I love teasing the under the most out of this, but if the Eagles win, I'd be surprised if it's by more than three points.

Spread Pick: Rams +3.5
Total Pick: Under 44.5

Jets vs. Buccaneers

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Jets vs. BuccaneersBuccaneers -7Tampa Bay -310; New York +25044.5

I'm expecting Tristan Wirfs (knee) back soon, which would help the Buccaneers tremendously, but I'd actually feel way better about this line if Justin Fields (concussion) does end up playing. I guess I have a hard time envisioning how the Jets would outright win this game, so maybe the play is to tease a few of these totals and push the Bucs lower with the spread.

Spread Pick: Buccaneers -7
Total Pick: Over 44.5

Colts vs. Titans

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Colts vs. TitansColts -3.5Indianapolis -192; Tennessee +16043.5

This sneakily is going to be a really intriguing game for me. You can hand wring about the way in which Indy beat Denver in Week 2, but I don't know many people who even assumed they'd be in that spot in the first place. I happen to think Tennessee is actually closer to a 7-8 win team and just had an unfortunate schedule to start the season, but we'll learn a lot more after this week.

Spread Pick: Colts -3.5
Total Pick: Over 43.5

Raiders vs. Commanders

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Raiders vs. CommandersCommanders -3.5Washington -192; Las Vegas +16044.5

This line seems suspicious as I imagine if Vegas assumed Jayden Daniels (knee) would play this line would be closer to a touchdown. I don't often allow myself to do this, but if we find out that Marcus Mariota will start Sunday, I'll default to whatever the current line is for the Raiders. But if Daniels does play, give me the Commanders.

Spread Pick: Commanders -3.5*
Total Pick: Under 44.5

Broncos vs. Chargers

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Broncos vs. ChargersChargers -2.5Los Angeles -148; Denver +12445.5

This is another suspicious line. The Broncos probably shouldn't have lost last week if not for some referee shenanigans and overall bad play in the fourth quarter, but I think it's very telling that everyone's favorite surprise playoff team was somehow even in a dogfight to begin with the Colts. I'd happily take this at -3.5 if Vegas presented that, so I guess I'll just walk right into what feels like an obvious trap.

Spread Pick: Chargers -2.5
Total Pick: Over 45.5

Saints vs. Seahawks

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Saints vs. SeahawksSeahawks -7.5Seattle -395; New Orleans +31041.5

Ok, I feel like Vegas just overcompensated for the DEN/LAC game above. I did not like the Saints entering the year and I still think they're the front runner for the No. 1 overall pick, but you have to admit they've been pretty competent this season. Seattle did what they needed to do against Pittsburgh, but they should not be a touchdown favorite over anybody right now.

Spread Pick: Saints +7.5
Total Pick: Over 41.5

Cowboys vs. Bears

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Cowboys vs. BearsCowboys -0.5Dallas -115; Chicago -10550.5

I am a parent to a wonderful, loving, monstrous, oblivious, living embodiment of the caricature of a four-year old toddler. The precious few moments that I'm spared not worrying about what terror my child is enacting upon the world is a true privilege. My son mostly lets the demons come out when we're home, so there will be brief moments in regular society where I'll watch other parents struggle with their equally wildchild toddlers and smirk from a safe distance. That's what this game feels like to me. You're allowed as a fan to enjoy this game for the glorious and inevitable ineptitude that it will be, but understand that you must do so with at minimum a twinge of pity for the fans, who have to live with this on a daily basis.

Spread Pick: Cowboys -0.5
Total Pick: Over 50.5

Cardinals vs. 49ers

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Cardinals vs. 49ers49ers -1.5San Francisco -135; Arizona +11444.5

NFC West games are always so annoying. I think Mac Jones will make it more complicated, but it's possible as of this writing Arizona could be out its top two corners as well. I'm going to just default to the better coached team and hope it plays out that way on paper.

Spread Pick: 49ers -1.5
Total Pick: Over 44.5

Chiefs vs. Giants

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Chiefs vs. GiantsChiefs -6Kansas City -305; New York +24545.5

I'm so annoyed at the NFL for making us suffer through this. Maybe Russell Wilson orchestrates a backdoor cover, but there's nothing interesting or game changing that will occur in this game at all. I understand the excuse last week with MIN/ATL, but there was never a point where this was worthy of the late afternoon game, much less a primetime one. Do better, NFL.

Spread Pick: Chiefs -6
Total Pick: Under 45.5

Lions vs. Ravens

GameSpreadMoneylineTotal
Lions vs. RavensRavens -4.5Baltimore -225; Detroit +18552.5

Nevermind, all of my frustrations are now erased. What an absolute treat of a game. I don't think Detroit has the horses to really stop Lamar Jackson and company, so it's a matter of can Jared Goff and this reinvigorated offense keep pace. The answer is probably yes, and truthfully I'm rooting for that to happen, but I just can't find myself betting on that outcome either.

Spread Pick: Ravens -4.5
Total Pick: Under 52.5
