Dallas Cowboys RB Roles
Team: Dallas Cowboys
Last Update:   4/27/2025
RB Overview
Role Security: Very Low
04/27/25- The Dallas backfield could be in flux all season, unless someone emerges as the leader. This could also be a committee all season. Javonte Williams has been inefficient the last two seasons, but could begin the year as the lead runner. Jaydon Blue was selected in the fifth round of this year's draft, and he should have a chance to chip in as a receiving back, unless he struggles in pass protection. Miles Sanders will certainly get chances to impress the coaching staff, but he appears to be in contention for the No. 3 role. Dallas did use a seventh-round pick on Phil Mafah, who could be used for between the tackles work.
WR Overview
04/27/25- CeeDee Lamb is the only proven WR on the team and will likely see as many targets as he can handle. Jalen Tolbert projects to be the No. 2 WR, and although he's improved during his three years in the NFL, 2024 was his best season, when he turned 79 targets into 610 yards. KaVontae Turpin may be best used as a part-time WR and gadget player, and he will compete with Ryan Flournoy for the No.3 and No. 4 role. Jonathan Mingo, Parris Campbell and Jalen Brooks will also compete for snaps.
TE Overview
04/27/25- Jake Ferguson struggled when Dak Prescott was injured last year. With Prescott back, Ferguson should remain the top tight end while possibly being the second option in the Dallas' passing attack. Luke Schoonmaker will see occasional targets as the No. 2.
