NHL DFS: DraftKings Plays and Strategy for Sunday, January 25

The Canucks rank last in GAA and penalty kill percentage, so you may want to include a couple Pittsburgh players on your Sunday DraftKings NHL DFS lineups.
NHL DFS: DraftKings Plays and Strategy for Sunday, January 25

It's the last Sunday of January, which means the Olympic break isn't far away. There are five games on DraftKings' NHL DFS docket, and the first one starts at 3 p.m. EST. Hope it's been a good weekend, so let's end it on a high note with the following lineup recommendations.

SLATE PREVIEW

Two teams are on the second day of a back-to-back. The Senators are at home facing the Golden Knights while the Panthers are visiting the Blackhawks after winning in Minnesota on Saturday.

GOALIES

Stuart Skinner, PIT at VAN ($8,300): The Oilers have to be slightly peeved as Skinner has posted a .902 save percentage and 2.34 GAA in 10 appearances since joining the Penguins. And he'll be facing a Canucks side on Sunday ranked bottom-five in goals scored and allowed per game.

Lukas Dostal, ANA at CGY ($7,800): It'd be nice if the Ducks would decide whether or not to be good at defense. After Dostal returned from injury, he struggled while the back line was porous and the goals were piling up. But over his last five starts, he's won all of them while recording an 1.74 GAA and .935 save percentage. The Flames have already started shipping out talent and are also 31st for average goals.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Nico Hischier, NJD at SEA ($6,000): Hischier had a goal and an assist last time out, both on the power play. He's not seen as offensively impressive as fellow first-overall pick and teammate Jack Hughes, though has so far notched 14 points while up a man after 29 last season. I'm focused on that category as the Kraken maintain a bottom-three penalty kill.

Rickard Rakell, PIT at VAN ($5,900): Rust is riding a five-game scoring streak with 91 shots over 30 matchups. Pucks on net tend to turn out well against the Canucks as they come in with a 3.67 GAA, which is comfortably the worst in the league.

FORWARD LINE STACK TO CONSIDER

Golden Knights at Senators

Tomas Hertl (C - $6,100), Mitch Marner (W - $6,300), Pavel Dorofeyev (W - $6,200)

The Sens are bottom-five in both GAA and penalty-kill percentage. And as noted, they're on the second day of a back-to-back. And all three members of this trio feature on Vegas's top power play.

Hertl's job is to produce on the man-advantage, and he's done that with 23 points from his first full campaign with the Golden Knights and is already at 19. High standards have been when you have 52 points across 50 appearances and people think you need to pick it up. That's the reality Marner is dealing with, and he's responded with five multipoint efforts over his last 10 to go with 16 PPPs overall. Dorofeyev has potted five goals in five outings supplemented by 21 shots. He's also been the most successful of these three while up a man having notched 21 points there.

DEFENSEMEN

Erik Karlsson, PIT at VAN ($4,300): Kris Letang is banged up, but conveniently Karlsson is back from his own injury. He's averaged 3:03 on the power play where he's supplied 13 PPPs. I mentioned the Canucks have the league's highest GAA, but they're also last on the penalty kill.

Alex Vlasic, CHI vs. FLA ($2,800): Vlasic's ice time and production is down from last year, but that's because he's given up his power-play role to Artyom Levshunov. He's still Chicago's No. 1 defender averaging 21:00 with 12 points, 51 shots, and 74 blocked shots. The Panthers are the only team on the road for the second leg of a back-to-back Sunday and also happen to be bottom-10 in GAA.
