Best NBA Bets Today (Saturday, Jan. 17)

Charlotte Hornets vs. Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry over 4.5 threes made, -109 @ DraftKings

Curry has made at least four three-pointers in six of his last nine games despite not playing more than 35 minutes in any of those contests, so there's a solid body of work to believe this line will be attainable. The Hornets aren't known for being a top defensive team, and Curry should feast on the matchup against LaMelo Ball. Curry is making 4.6 of his 11.8 three-pointers per game this season, and although his 38.9 percent is the lowest of the last four seasons, he remains a deadly player from long range. No player on Saturday's slate across the majority of the most popular sportsbooks is projected to make more threes than Curry, so the matchup at home is favorable as well. Don't be surprised if Curry hits five or more three-pointers for the 15th time this season during Saturday's contest.

Washington Wizards vs. Denver Nuggets: Jamal Murray over 27.5 points scored, -106 @ FanDuel

The Nuggets remain depleted in terms of depth, meaning Murray will likely be tasked with carrying the team offensively once again. Even though the star floor general is dealing with a left ankle injury, it's worth noting that he's played the last two games and has scored at least 30 points each time. With a favorable matchup against the Washington Wizards, who will be without Trae Young (quadriceps), on the horizon, it wouldn't be shocking if Murray hits this scoring line. He has scored at least 27 points in four of his last five appearances, and he's averaging exactly 27.5 points per game since the beginning of December (19 games). That number goes up to 30.2 points per game when factoring in his five appearances in January, and as long as Nikola Jokic (knee) remains out, Murray should continue to have an expanded role on offense, further enhancing his chances of hitting this line.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers: Trail Blazers to cover -3.5 spread, -105 @ BetMGM

The Lakers and Trail Blazers are separated by 5.5 games in the Western Conference standings. In normal conditions and at full strength, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Lakers as favorites. However, they'll be playing on the road in this one and will be without their best two players in Luka Doncic (groin) and Austin Reaves (calf), meaning LeBron James will have to single-handedly carry the Lakers on offense. Plus, the Lakers have "only" gone 5-5 in their last 10 games, so it's not as if they're playing their best ball of the season. The Blazers not only have the edge of being at home and healthier, but they've lost just three of their last 10 games -- that's tied for the second-best record in the West over that span. Furthermore, the Blazers have covered the 3.5-point gap in six of their last eight wins overall. Even if they might be without Deni Avdija (back), the Blazers should rely on their home-court advantage and solid form to win here against a depleted Lakers team.
