Xavier Hutchinson

Xavier Hutchinson

25-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
Houston Texans
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Hutchinson is entering his third year since being a Day 3 selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. He saw more time on the field and targets in his second NFL season, but there were too many playmakers ahead of him. Hutchinson's greatest contributions were as a blocker and a special-teams regular. Houston lost two significant wideouts from the 2024 team - Stefon Diggs to free agency and Tank Dell to injury - but they restocked in a big way with Christian Kirk, Braxton Berrios and two receivers, drafted in the second and third round. Hutchinson's path to a roster spot cleared up significantly when the Texans traded John Metchie to Philadelphia. And his path to playing time Week 1 improved, as both Kirk and Berrios are ruled out with hamstring injuries. Read Past Outlooks

Two catches in loss
WRHouston Texans
September 8, 2025
Hutchinson caught two of two targets for 30 yards and ran the ball once for another five yards in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Hutchinson benefitted from the absences of Christian Kirk (hamstring) and Braxton Berrios (hamstring) and played 43 offensive snaps (68 percent). That was second most on the club behind Nico Collins (53) and more than the two wideouts selected in the second and third rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft -- Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. It's hard to take anything definitive away from the season opener, when Houston's offense and quarterback C.J. Stroud were not operating at peak efficiency. So, good for Hutchinson that he was on the field often, but there were times in 2024 when he was given starter-level snaps, but it rarely panned out to be fantasy gold.

2024
2023
Hutchinson began to see regular targets beginning in Week 14 as a rookie. The receiver was pressed into a bigger role when the Texans were dealing with wide receiver injuries. Despite averaging three targets per game, he averaged 1.2 receptions for 9.4 yards. Hutchinson didn't show great chemistry with C.J. Stroud, which could hurt his chances at seeing a prominent role in 2024. With the top-three wide receiver roles being held by high-level players, Hutchinson may struggle to see playing time unless teammates miss time.
After drafting quarterback C.J. Stroud with the second overall pick in the 2023 draft, the Texans subsequently selected a pair of wideouts. Nathaniel Dell went in the third round followed by Hutchinson three rounds later. Hutchinson showed improvement each year Iowa State and caught 107 passes for 1,171 receiving yards while being targeted a nation-high 161 times in 2022. At 6-3, Hutchinson has good size, but he has merely average speed (4.53 40) and ball skills, which contributed to his draft-day slide. There is, however, something for coaches to work with, and Hutchinson's size makes him a red-zone fit. He could have opportunities in Houston, which lacks proven high-end talent, but he'll also have a rookie quarterback in C.J. Stroud running the offense.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be WR3 sans Woods
WRHouston Texans
January 18, 2025
Hutchinson would be in line to serve as the Texans' No. 3 wideout for Saturday's AFC divisional-round game against the Chiefs if Robert Woods is unable to play due to a hip injury.
ANALYSIS
Woods has not participated in practice all week due to a hip injury that he likely picked up during the Texans' wild-card win over the Chargers. That could just be out of precaution to ensure the veteran wide receiver doesn't aggravate the injury, but Hutchinson should see an uptick in playing time if Woods is ruled out or operates on a snap count. Hutchinson played 26 offensive snaps in Houston's wild-card win and hauled in his lone target for 34 yards.
