2025 Ryder Cup Betting Preview

It's Ryder Cup Week!

One of the most exciting events in all of sports kicks off Friday in New York, as the United States squad captained by Keegan Bradley takes on the European team led once again by Luke Donald. The U.S. Team is a the favorite at -150 and includes four rookies and two players who are new to team competition. That's in contrast of Team Europe (+170), who return 11-of-12 players from their 2023 team with the only change being Rasmus Hojgaard tagging in for his twin, Nicolai. Europe is coming off a 16.5-11.5 victory over the U.S. on European turf two years ago and is looking to end a stretch of five consecutive Ryder Cups that have been won by the home team.

Bethpage Black plays as a par-70 at 7,352 yards and has a mixture of short and long par-4s, with six of them over 475 yards and four under 415 yards. While Marco Simone put a huge premium on accuracy off the tee while negating distance -- driving it long is going to be an advantage with the rough trimmed down and the greens playing fast.

When looking at players to target for betting -- and DFS -- purposes, I'm mainly focusing on long hitters and those that approach it well from 175+ yards. I'll also be looking towards golfers that have played well on the big stage this year and golfers I think the captains will be willing to turn to at least four times.

2025 Ryder Cup Team Breakdown

U.S. Team

GolferRecord
Patrick Cantlay5-2-1
Justin Thomas7-4-2
Collin Morikawa4-3-1
Xander Schauffele4-4
Scottie Scheffler2-2-3
Bryson DeChambeau2-3-1
Sam Burns1-2
Harris English1-2

Rookies: Ben Griffin, Russell Henley, J.J. Spaun, Cameron Young

Nobody on the U.S. side has more Ryder Cup experience than Thomas, who will be making his fourth consecutive appearance in the event. Like most of the team in 2023, Thomas didn't have much success in Italy but did win his singles match and is playing better golf compared to two years ago. And then there's Cantlay, the lone player on the team that won twice last time out. Including his Presidents Cup experience, he's a perfect 4-0 in singles and has never lost in fourball. He's been a common partner for Xander Schauffele but also went 2-0 in fourball with Sam Burns last year.

Team Europe

GolferRecord
Robert MacIntyre2-0-1
Tommy Fleetwood7-3-2
Jon Rahm6-3-3
Justin Rose14-9-3
Rory McIlroy16-13-4
Tyrrell Hatton5-4-2
Ludvig Aberg2-2
Viktor Hovland3-4-3
Shane Lowry2-3-1
Sepp Straka1-2
Matt Fitzpatrick1-7

Rookie: Rasmus Hojgaard

There's a bit more experience on the European side as McIlroy has been on every team since 2010 and Rose is making his seventh appearance. MacIntyre impressed as a rookie in 2023, going 1-0-1 in fourball with Justin Rose before winning his singles match, and he's improved massively since then. One of the biggest wildcards on this team to me is Fitzpatrick, who has only managed one point in eight matches. However, it wasn't a Ryder Cup year when he was playing his best golf in 2022 in which he won the U.S. Open, and this feels like the first time he's peaking heading into the event. He's posted a top-10 in seven of his last nine starts and is a sneaky betting/DFS option this week.

2025 Ryder Cup Bets: Top Team USA Point Scorer

Xander Schauffele (9-1)

I like the value on Schauffele and think he's being downgraded based on not playing Napa after recently becoming a father. He failed to qualify for East Lake for the first time, but he had a decent summer with top-10s in two of his last four events. With some rookies on the team combined with Schauffele's ability to play either format, he's someone the Americans can lean on.

2025 Ryder Cup Bets: Top European Point Scorer

Tommy Fleetwood (9-2)

Fleetwood played all five matches in his debut in 2018 and 4-out-of-5 in 2023. Considering how well he's played this year, I think he plays at least four with the possibility of not sitting out at all. Only Scheffler ranked better in SG: Total this year, and Fleetwood's 7-3-2 Ryder Cup record is the best winning percentage of anyone playing with at least 10 matches.

2025 Ryder Cup Bets: Top Rookie Scorer

J.J. Spaun (+425)

Five rookies in this event is the fewest that I can recall, and Henley comes in as the favorite amongst the group at 2-1. I'll opt for the U.S. Open champion instead, who had a runner-up finish in the playoffs and most recently a sixth-place result in Napa. Spaun lacks a weakness in his game and suits both formats well.

2025 Ryder Cup Bets: To Win a Point

Shane Lowry - No (+300)

I'm going to fade Lowry winning a match. He only played three matches in 2023 and was paired with Sepp Straka in foursomes both times, and I think there's a possibility he only plays twice if he loses Friday. Neither Straka or Lowry enter in good form, with Lowry's last top-10 coming in May. I'm also not confident in the course fit, as he's below average distance-wise and has struggled with his short game this year.

2025 Ryder Cup Bets: Tournament Winner

Team USA (-150)

I have a really difficult time ignoring how big of a role home field advantage is in the Ryder Cup. Not only can the United States side set the course up to fit their team's strengths, but the boisterous New York crowd is going to be difficult for the Europeans to overcome. Oh, and let's not forget, this United States team is incredibly talented. Team Europe can match them at the top with their star power, but the bottom 4-5 players in the event in my eyes are on the European side and the depth will be the difference.
