Expert NHL Betting Picks for Tuesday Night's Lineup
Tampa Bay Lightning at Washington Capitals
The Lightning (1-2-0) and the Capitals (2-1-0) meet at Capital One Arena at 7 p.m. ET.
Last season, Tampa Bay won two of three meetings with the Capitals, including a 3-1 win by the Lightning in the only visit to the nation's capital on March 1 as short 'dogs (+105) while the Under (6) connected.
In the past 10 meetings in this series since April 6, 2022, Tampa Bay and Washington have split the past 10 meetings, with the Under going 4-2-1 in the past seven in the series. In the previous nine battles, we've had just two one-goal games, and only one of the past 11 meetings has ended up going to overtime or a shootout. Since Nov. 11, 2022, the average margin of victory in this series is 2.44 goals per game (GPG).
Washington lost its season opener 3-1 to the Boston Bruins last Wednesday in the only previous game on home ice. It rebounded with a 4-2 win against the Islanders, and a 1-0 win against the Rangers Sunday behind backup tendy Charlie Lindgren. Logan Thompson is expected to be back between the pipes for this one, however.
Tampa Bay suffered a 5-4 loss at home to the Ottawa Senators, while falling 5-3 to the New Jersey Devils. It rebounded with a 4-3 road win against the Boston Bruins behind Jonas Johansson. The Over has cashed in each of the three games to date, with the Lightning posting 3.7 GPG, while allowing 4.3 GPG.
The best play here is to go Over, and we'll side with the Lightning, due to their ability to score goals. The Caps have managed just 2.0 GPG so far, while allowing 1.7 GPG.

Minnesota Wild
at Dallas Stars
The Wild (2-1-0) and the Stars (2-0-0) meet at American Airlines Center at 9:30 p.m. ET.
These teams split the season series in 2024-25, with the home team going 2-2 in those games, too. Minnesota won the first trip to the Metroplex last season, 3-2 in OT, on Dec. 27 as a heavy underdog (+190) as the Under (5.5) cashed. Dallas won the other meeting 3-0 at American Airlines Center on March 24 as heavy favorites (-205), as the Under (5.5) cashed. The latter is a common theme, as the Under cashed in all four meetings. The total has gone low at a 7-2-1 clip in the past 10 meetings, including a playoff series in 2023. Last season, three of the four meetings resulted in one-goal games.
Minnesota opened the season with a 5-0 shutout win as short 'dogs (+110) in St. Louis behind Filip Gustavsson, but it suffered a 7-4 loss in the home opener to Columbus on Saturday. It rebounded with a 4-3 win in a shootout Monday night as the Over (5.5) cashed, as Jesper Wallstedt made his first start of the season, picking up the victory.
In Monday's win, the Wild fired out to a 3-0 lead with three first-period power-play goals in a 2:29 span, as Jared Spurgeon, Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy lit the lamp. Vladimir Tarasenko notched two assists, too.
Dallas has opened with a pair of 5-4 victories on the road in Winnipeg and Colorado. Saturday's victory was a 5-4 SOW behind Jake Oettinger. The Stars are 2-0 as an underdog, but they're favored in this one. The Over has cashed in both games, too.
Based on the series trends, we'll go low on the total in this home opener for Dallas. And, let's lean to the road team catching a goal and a half in a game, which could be a one-goal game, and might be decided in overtime or a shootout.
