It feels like an eternity since I've written here (almost a month!) and the break was well-timed. June was a rough month for predictions, and things slowly started to turn around in July. Now that we are in mid-August, the trade deadline has passed, and there is a much better feel for teams that are contenders and teams that are merely playing out the rest of the season. On Thursday, I'm focusing in on a team that has been playing for next season since Opening Day, but one that has been dangerous all year.

Miami Marlins vs Cleveland Guardians Props
The plucky Marlins have been a thorn in the side of contenders all year as they have hovered around .500 with their traditional roster of promising young talent. The Guardians have benefited from the Tigers slow restart after the All-Star Break, sitting alone in second place in the AL Central. While I have a little concern about recent form (MIA 3-7 in their last 10, CLE 7-3), I like the way the starting pitchers stack up in Miami's favor. Cleveland RHP Tanner Bibee is the bigger name, but Marlins RHP Edward Cabrera has been very impressive, too. Cabrera's stats are better across the board, while Bibee has given up four or more earned runs in five of his last seven starts. I like the value on the Fish.
Typically, I'd have a play on the total for this pick. However, I feel the number is perfectly set and can make an argument for both sides, so I'm going to pivot to provide two player prop picks for Thursday's single-game focus. The first one will be on the offensive side, and that is with the red-hot Jakob Marsee. The Marlins outfielder has been ripping the ball and is coming off a huge performance Wednesday night. Marsee has recorded two or more total bases in four of his last seven games, and at a good return at BetRivers, I like him to do it again Thursday.

The second player prop will be on Edward Cabrera. His strikeout numbers are on a big uptick and the books seem to be slow to adjust. Guardians batters struck out 11 times last night and while my officially listed play will be on over 5.5 strikeouts, I'd go as high as 7.5 with solid, plus money returns if available at your shop.
